College, it’s a universal thing. While I was in highschool, I was made to feel like you have no other option than to go to college or you’ll be financially unstable and unhappy. They made it seem as if you were to just go straight into the working field then you would never accomplish your true potential. And I believed it at first.
Now, I think that’s a bucket load of crap. I know people who are happier, and are making more money without a degree than those with a degree. My parents for example, neither have a degree. And together make $100k+ yearly. All 5 of us are lucky enough to live in a nice house, vacation twice a year, and have a car. (This is in no means to be bragging but just to show that you don’t need a degree to have a good life.)
I have a friend who is 20 years old this next week and is making $60k yearly by himself. And he works construction, a job he loves that didn’t take any schooling.
School is not for everyone. And I’m one of these people. But in my heart I know my place is in therapy. And I cannot do that without a degree. I am making this post for the pure joy of sharing my biggest pet peeve that has been triggered quite a bit lately with classes beginning.
If someone even a friend, parent, sibling, grandparent, teacher, stranger, etc. try and make you feel less because you’re not going to college, tell them to kiss your ass and mine. And with that being said, do not be someone who makes someone feel less because they’re not pursing a degree. If you are, I’m proud of you. If you’re not, and instead choosing to jump into the work life, I’m also proud of you. Life goes by so fast. And you have a limited time to enjoy it all, so don’t waste it on things that you know you don’t want. You are just as important as the next guy. Don’t let a piece of paper, or someone with a piece of paper, make you forget that.
