I'm not like Good At Video Games but I do enjoy playing fire emblem style turn based combat with family drama and pretty art and magic. but like: do you have any recommendations for Fire Emblem, But More Gay? I know a couple of the games have genuine queer romance options but I'd love like an overwhelming majority of romance options to be queer friendly
āGames like Fire Emblemā is a pretty tall order even without making it gay ā decent Fire Emblem clones are very thin on the ground. If youāre willing to accept other sorts of tactical RPGs, though, I may have a few to recommend.
The first game that springs to mind is Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire. There arenāt really āromance optionsā per se, but there are several gay characters who play a major role in the story, including a pair of your earliest allies, a couple of guys who manage the feat of being totally adorable together while also being scary as hell. The gameplay and writing are very solid; the mixed reviews are more due to the fact that itās the first game in a planned series, but the sequels were never made because the devs worked themselves ragged and burned out before they could be completed. (Insert rant about the state of the gaming industry here!)
In terms of forthcoming games, you might keep an eye out for Fae Tactics, the latest from EndlessFluff Games ā you might recall them from the previously plugged Valdis Story: Abyssal City. As an unreleased title, I canāt make any promises about what sort of LGBTQ representation itāll have, but the previews to date certainly look promising! It may also be worth checking out Bravery Network Online; while itās really more of a āwhat if Street Fighter were turn-based?ā deal than a tactical RPG per se, it looks like itāll have strong tactical play all the same, and the developers have all but promised that not a single character in it is straight.
(Iām also going to throw in a gratuitous plug for Super Lesbian Animal RPG, whose combat has basically nothing in common with Fire Emblem apart from being turn based, but the protagonist can literally get combat buffs by kissing her girlfriend, which has gotta make up for it at least a little. Like the preceding recs, itās not yet released, though there is an alpha demo you can check out.)
