Theyâd given Andrew the wrong key.
He slammed on the buzzer for the person in the apartment below his, again, and again, and again.
He was dead tired, and his stupid flip phone was just plain dead, so he couldnât even call Roland to get his key fixed. Andrew pressed the buzzer again. He was standing in front of the shitty apartment building with everything he owned, and, although it wasnât much, he really wasnât in a forgiving enough mood to deal with someone who might try to take something.
Finally, a voice that sounded just barely awake came through the intercom.
âIâm moving into the apartment above you, but my key doesnât work. Let me in,â Andrew said.
His neighbor paused for a moment, until, finally, he said,
âHow do I know youâre not a dangerous criminal?â
It was a joke, Andrew could tell by the challenge in his voice. He hated this place already.
âDangerous? Yes. Criminal? Not unless you donât let me in.â
âYeah, yeah,â said the neighbor, audibly yawning. Andrew heard the door unlock and quickly gathered his things.
