"You know," Janus begins casually. "We could always have a couples costume."

"Like what?" Logan asks, intrigued. He tilts his head to one side and Janus closes the distance, giving him a light kiss on his cheek.

"Anything," Janus murmurs with an elegant shrug.

Ah, Crow, my detested! Come to tempt me into participating in an event, are you?

Virgil hadn’t even turned around from closing the door when he started speaking.

"I'm going to close my eyes and count to ten. Maybe I'll convince myself you were never here if you won't be here when I open them."

Janus should have known to expect such a cold welcome. He stared at Virgil’s back, willing him to turn around and hear him out, to notice and acknowledge him, even just to glare at him. The sharp interjection of Virgil’s counting cut through the air before he could speak.

“One.”

It had been instinct, to go to Virgil first. His former best friend. The one he once trusted more than anyone else.

“Two.”

Maybe Janus should have gone to someone else.

“Three.”

Patton wouldn’t have turned him away.

“Four.”

Maybe Logan would have tried to help.

“Five.”

Roman... Roman probably would have pretended he wasn’t there, too.

“Six.”

Remus would have stayed until the bitter end.

“Seven.”

He was already running out of time anyway. What did a few more seconds matter?

“Eight.”

But, if Janus was being honest with himself - and sometimes, he was - he just wanted to see Virgil one last time.

“Nine.”

Janus closed his eyes.

“Ten.”

No one was there when Virgil turned back around.

Ohhh right back at you! We are a rare and wonderful breed. I wrote *so much* Loceit stuff about a year ago and then life stole me away, but I am so stoked to be back! And fitting that it’s right around the time of Mistletoe, the fic that started me on my original Loceit storm haha. You all are absolutely going to get another Mistletoeverse fic at some point in December.
