speaking of allergies and people being shit/not taking them seriously
i'm allergic to aloe, i've been allergic to aloe since i was a teenager, and my reactions have gotten worse over the years to the point my allergist prescribed me an epi pen because it seems i'm trying Real Hard to go into anaphylactic shock
the number of people who do not believe that you can even be allergic to aloe is horrifying
"you can't be allergic to that, it's natural!"
"but it's in so many things, you can't be!" (yeah, why do you think i constantly scan ingredient lists of everything and bring my own paper soap sheets everywhere, because i can't trust hand soap or hand sanitizer?!)
or how many times i told someone i'm allergic to aloe and they immediately gave me something with aloe in it, like a lotion or whatever, and were like "oh you can just use it, it's fine, you can't be that allergic!"
(my last exposure was mild and indirect and i almost ended up in the hospital, fuck you)
and like this year, i had to go to the hospital for a video eeg stay, so i couldn't use the bathroom because it was out of camera view, i couldn't shower or anything (so many wires rip) and the number of times a nurse was like "hey, let me give you this wipe for your hands" or "hey, do you want a 'bed bath' with wipes" and i had to be like "do they have aloe in them" and every single kind of wipe anyone could find in the hospital had aloe
so no, i could not use them, i had to use regular TP and get quick hand washing sessions in a basin they had to fill up at the sink while i used those soap sheets and no, i just had to be sweaty and gross for several days, because better that than an allergic reaction
the only good thing was that the nurses were actually very supportive about it, they had never thought about what would happen if someone was allergic to aloe or another common ingredient in things like wipes, soaps, etc., they were like "oh you must have to check everything, that sucks :(" and that was nice, at least
