Creative Identity is an internal representation of how creative practitioners view themselves as artists, it is what makes their practice and style their own and not anybody else’s. This internal representation manifests itself externally in performers and actors unique style and creative choices; how they carry themselves across a stage, the signature strength of their resonate voice, or a self-defining trait that continues to reveal itself in their practice. By “consciously develop[ing] the creative identity [it] can help strengthen your connection to the creative impulse.” (Jeffrey, n.d) Hugh Jackman establishes through his Instagram page (thehughjackman) his creative identity as a well renowned, talented and connected artist. Through observing individual posts and pictures, Jackman creates this identity for himself through the platform of Instagram; he is an empowered actor who cares for women’s rights, a connected practitioner who is familiar with the likes of Cate Blanchett and a sought after and well respected artist. Creative Identity is essential to performers and their craft as a means of self-promotion and establishing a long-lasting and well respected reputation.

Creative influence incorporates the influences, style and characteristics of creativity from a range of disciplines on an individual’s work. These influences can be of both an internal and external nature, and share the same inter-disciplinary nature as performance. The creative practitioner is a conglomerate product of the influences of other disciplines and artists, in turn creating their own unique artistic style. David Bowie as a musician and performer encapsulates the notion of creative influence as he absorbs the influences of other genres and styles to formulate and create his own unique sound. This is evidenced in his 1969 single ‘Space Oddity,’ which uniquely blended elements of the folk genre into his typically ‘pop chameleon’ style. This set the precedent for creative practitioners thereon of the value of creating unique creative style via the influence of other creatives; “Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination.” (Jarmusch 2004)
