Last night was the pinnacle of delight! My dear friend @always.alessandra brought @catben13, @tiffsantiag0 and I to see the opening night of @americanrep’s #TheWifeOfWillesden, written by Zadie Smith! And what’s even more exciting was that our seats were on the stage!! The show was set in a pub, so we got to bring our cups of wassail onstage with us and be background patrons. It was truly an honor to see this versatile, charming cast debut this adaptation of Chaucer’s Wife of Bath, and getting to chat with cast members and watch my friends line-dancing with a beloved author was just the icing on a surreally fantastic night! If you get a chance to see this show, do so. We would like to thank all those who supported the BTCOTC project by attending our half term workshops, in collaboration with @themixedmuseum This mood board was created by local artist Joumana Mourad and her family inspired by the history and vibrant communities of Willesden including being inspired by the #ZadieSmith portrait which featured in @brentmuseumandarchives Icons of Colour exhibition which was loaned from the @nationalportraitgallery collection. Our mood board workshops welcomed the public and asked them to bring photographs and personal possessions from their family archives or be inspired by the many colourful stories we have unearthed during research for the BTCOTC project to use as a starting point to create a mood board about the life and times of their family members or historical figures. With help from local artist Warren Reilly, participants pulled references from the images to help gain insights into their own or Brent’s mixed race and multicultural history. By the end of the workshop, participants had created a finalised Mood board which they could continue to add to or refine in their own time. This free exhibition at #willesdengreenlibrary @brentmuseumandarchives brings together portraits from the @nationalportraitgallery and new portraits purchased by Brent Museum and Archives to shine a light on some of the inspiring people that have lived in Brent. The exhibition includes the never-before-seen portrait of local hero #zadiesmith ! Icons of Colour runs from 16 December 2021 to 27 February 2022 in the Exhibition Space in the Library at Willesden Green.
