2022 මෑන් බුකර් සම්මානය ශ්රී ලාංකිකයෙකුට..
ලොව සාහිත්යකරුවන් සඳහා පිරිනැමෙන ඉහළ ම සම්මානයක් ලෙසින් සැලකෙන මෑන් බුකර් සම්මානය මෙවර දිනාගැනීමට ශ්රී ලාංකිකයෙකු වන ශෙහාන් කරුණාතිලක මහතා සමත් වී තිබේ. ඒ ඔහු විසින් රචිත "THE SEVEN MOONS OF MAALI ALMEIDA" නම් විශිෂ්ට කෘතිය සඳහා යි.
එංගලන්තයේ ලන්ඩන් අගනුවර රවුන්ඩ්හවුස් ශාලාවේ දී අද දින පැවති සම්මාන ප්රදාන උත්සවයේ දී ශෙහාන් කරුණාතිලක මහතා හට මෙවර මෑන් බුකර් සම්මානය ලබාදුන් අතර බ්රිතාන්යයේ නව රැජිණ වන කැමිලා රැජිණ විසින් බුකර් සම්මානය ඔහු වෙත පිරිනැමීය.
බුකර් සම්මානය දිනාගැනීමෙන් අනතුරුව අදහස් දැක්වීමේ දී කරුණාතිලක මහතා විසින් ඉංග්රීසි භාෂාවට අමතර ව සිංහල සහ දමිළ බසින් ද සිය අදහස් ප්රකාශ කළ අතර ශ්රී ලාංකික ජනතාව වෙත ඔහු ප්රකාශ කළේ "මේ පොත මම ඔයගොල්ලන්ට ලීවේ. මේක දිනුමක්; රට පරාජය වෙලා ඉන්න කාලෙක මේක දිනුමක්, ළඟදි අපි නැම්බියාවට පැරදුනා. කමක් නෑ. අද ලංකාවේ මිනිස්සු ගොඩක් දුක් විඳිනවා, ඒත් ඒ දුක් මිදින්න මට ආයුධ නෑ. ඒත් මේ ජයග්රහණය අපි පිළිගමු, දැන් අපි කොහොමහරි ලෝක t20 කුසලානය දිනාගමු.." යනුවෙනි.
1990 වසරේ මෙරට සිවිල් යුධ සමයේ දී ඝාතනය වන සමලිංගික ඡායාරූප ශිල්පියෙකු මරණින් මතු අවදි වීමත්, ඔහුගේ සිරුර බේරේ වැවේ ගිලී තිබිය දී ඝාතනය වීමට ප්රථම ඔහු විසින් ඡායාරූපගත කරන ලද සිවිල් යුද්ධයේ කුරිරුකම් පිළිබඳ ව වන ඡායාරූප සොයාගත හැකි ඔහුගේ සමීපතමයන් කරා ළඟා වීමට ඔහුට චන්ද්රයන් හතක කාලයක් ගතවීම වටාත් මෙම ග්රන්ථය රචනා වී ඇත.
1975 වසරේ දී ගාල්ලෙ ඉපිද කොළඹ හැදීවැඩී මේ වනවිට බ්රිතාන්යයේ සිටින කරුණාතිලක මහතා විසින් 2011 වසරේ දී ඔහුගේ ප්රථම කෘතිය වූ CHINAMAN රචනා කරන ලද අතර එය ද හොඳම නවකතාව සඳහා වන පොදුරාජ්ය මණ්ඩලීය සම්මානය ඇතුලු සම්මාන කිහිපයකට ම පාත්ර වී තිබේ.
මේත් සමඟ කරුණාතිලක මහතා බුකර් සම්මානය දිනාගත් දෙවන ශ්රී ලාංකිකයා බවට පත්වන අතර මින්පෙර 1992 වසරේ දී මයිකල් ඔන්ඩච්චි මහතා විසින් රචිත "English Patient" නවකතාව බුකර් සම්මානය දිනාගත් අතර පසුගිය වසරේ දී අනුක් අරුද්ප්රගාසම් විසින් රචිත The Passage North කෘතිය බුකර් සම්මාන අවසන් වටය සඳහා තේරීපත් විය.
ග්රන්ථකරණය වෙනුවෙන් පිදෙන ඉහළ ම ත්යාගය ලෙසින් මෑන් බුකර් සම්මානය හැඳින්වෙන අතර මුල් කාලයේ දී පොදුරාජ්ය මණ්ඩලයට අයත් රටවලත්, අයර්ලන්තයේ සහ අප්රිකානු ජාතිකයන් විසින් රචිත බ්රිතාන්යයේ ප්රකාශිත ග්රන්ථ සඳහා පමණක් මෙම බුකර් ත්යාගය පිරිනැමුණු අතර 1969 වසරේ සිට 2001 වසර දක්වා එය හැඳින්වූයේ බුකර් මැකොනෙල් ත්යාගය ලෙසින් ය. 2002 වසරේ සිට එය මෑන් බුකර් නමින් ප්රදානය වන අතර වර්තමානයේ දී ඉංග්රීසි බසින් රචිත ව බ්රිතාන්යය සමාගමක් හරහා ප්රකාශනය කරනු ලබන්නා වූ ඕනෑම ජාතිකයෙකුට බුකර් සම්මානය ලබාගත හැක.
2022 Man Booker Award to a Sri Lankan.. Mr. Shehan Karunathilaka, a Sri Lankan, has won the Man Booker Award, which is considered to be the highest award for the world's writers. It is for the masterpiece "THE SEVEN MOONS OF MAALI ALMEIDA" written by him.
Mr. Shehan Karunathilaka was given the Man Booker Award this year at the Roundhouse Hall in London, England, and the new Queen Camilla, the Queen of Britain, presented the Booker Award to him.
In his comments after winning the Booker award, Mr. Karunathilaka expressed his views in Sinhala and Tamil in addition to English, and to the Sri Lankan people, he said, "I wrote this book for you. This is a victory; at a time when the country is defeated, this is a victory, soon. We lost to Nambia. It doesn't matter. People in Sri Lanka are suffering a lot today, but I don't have the weapons to overcome that suffering. But let's accept this victory, now let's win the world t20 cup anyway.."
A gay photographer who was murdered during Sri Lanka's civil war in 1990 woke up after his death and it took seven moons for him to reach his loved ones who could find the photographs of civil war atrocities he had photographed before his body was drowned in Beira Lake. This book is also written around passing.
Mr. Karunathilaka, who was born in Galle in 1975, grew up in Colombo and is now in Britain, wrote his first book, CHINAMAN, in 2011, which has won several awards including the Commonwealth Award for the best novel.
Along with Meth, Mr. Karunathilaka becomes the second Sri Lankan to win the Booker Prize. Earlier in 1992, the novel "English Patient" written by Mr. Michael Ondachchi won the Booker Prize and last year the book The Passage North by Anuk Arudpragasam was selected for the final round of the Booker Prize.
The Man Booker Prize is known as the highest literary prize, and in the early days, the Booker Prize was awarded only to books published in the Commonwealth of Nations, Ireland and Britain written by Africans, and from 1969 to 2001, it was called the Booker McConnell Prize. Since 2002, it has been awarded under the name of Man Booker, and currently, any national who is published in English and published by a British company can get the Man Booker Award.
