This is my friend Taylor and I in 2009. He was one of those friends I didn’t truly recognize the impact of until way later. We only did one show and one workshop together. But he was the Jim to my Laura and it was in that moment I knew I’d always love him. Taylor the Latte Boy was a feature song that year. Taylor (this one) worked at Second Cup at the time so we changed the lyric. He expanded my world further into straight theatre and I lessened his fear of musicals (for the rest of his life/our friendship I referred to him as “my Pippin” or “Pips” because Corner of the Sky was the song he mastered) It’s been almost 5 years now I think, but I still pick up my phone to call him. especially now that I’m writing a show. That I’m basing the show’s main relationship around ours. Something I did without realizing and now I just want to call and ask if I’m doing it right. There’s so much I want to ask. And yes this post is a result of me trying to write and getting emotionally weird. That’s what happens to writers. Life is really short. Call your friends. Go to the movies. Play hooky. Take the trip. Kiss him. Kiss her. Buy the thing. Say the words. Have the drink. Take the leap. Tomorrow is not promised.
