The Apostle John
I saw the apostle John tonight, In a blue-and-white gingham, button-down shirt, and a slightly rumpled suit coat much too large, that hung off his slender frame.
Not one to protest or be overzealous like Peter, Not one to betray with a kiss traitorous like Judas, Instead, quietly, he watches his Master wash his feet for him. With dark, contemplative eyes, he ponders the example and lesson; He thinks he understands it, as he follows his older peers.
I saw the apostle John tonight, “Won’t you stay with me, for just one hour? Keep watch, await the hour, await the test.” Through heavy lids and mop head curls, Christ’s beloved disciple has an uneasy feeling things are going to change, real real soon.
“The hour of My betrayal is at hand.”
