with parents long since forgotten , the dregs are the only family you’ve ever known . you’ve been within their ranks since you proved yourself useful . you’ve , after all , had always had a knack for getting into places you weren’t meant to be . you learnt from the best after all . but being the student meant you never got the chance to show what you were truly capable of . the wraith was the favourite . of course she was , why wouldn’t she be ? you understood , but you couldn’t help but feel that jealousy twisting itself around your gut whenever you were shifted to another job . another job you could do with your eyes closed . you knew you could do more , you wanted to do more . it was only because the wraith left for the open seas that you finally got the chance to prove yourself . you didn’t blink to take up the job though . you’d never be the wraith but you could be something else . you knew you could , you were good . it’s why inej handpicked you from the dregs when she came back from the seas with a job of her own .

“you have my attention, if that was what you came for.” he shuffles his cards back to their stacks again, sparing the man only lazy glances despite the tenseness he holds in jaws at his presence. “well? was your only purpose here to shame me? if so, then i suppose your job here is done  —  you are more than welcome to leave.” 

“my, do you really think me that weak-skinned? there is nothing to repair, though if the time comes for an apology, i would highly recommend you come with a bottle. i prefer whiskey. keep that noted.”
