This kid, maybe a baby, maybe a toddler who still remembers a tiny bit of nonsensical things, who can speak with weird sounds and honestly, it may be just baby bable he never grew out of
A kid who doesn't look that off in wherever he ended up in
And there's this couple, this genuinely Lovely, Truly American and Kind couple who takes him in
He is raised with love and attention, never hurt and always knowing he is Their Son no matter what happens or where he comes from
He doesn't sunburn as easily, for his earlier years he had trouble with English - specifically pronunciation, he liked weird food combinations and spices and-
Man, even if could pass, he looked Off at times
The couple did his best to hide it, because they Knew that being labelled Weird and Different could be one of the worst things to happen to someone who they may or may not have adopted in questionable legality
But he is raised with love and care...
...yet still haunted by his differences and his history that he doesn't know from before he was taken in
The culture he was meant to raised in
The culture whose survivors are locked away somewhere, children left to be raised by those who Don't Know and whose more than half Doesn't Care or even see them as people
And the kids finds bits of that culture, mostly history books and videos and-
It's more than he had growing up
To learn the language, the culture, everything
Even if only to keep it alive
He was always too empathetic and curious for his good, and couple that with the million questions he was plagued by every night as he looked at the stars and wondered?
Oh man, you got a guy who learns fast and Hungrily, like a man starved his entire life who fears that all this will disappear if he so much blinks
(He brings his findings to the couple who raised him, of course he does, and they they learn alongside him even if a bit slower
They never knew where he came from but if they had? Oh man, they would have raised him with it and their culture as well
I mean, they suspected where he might be from, to the point where certain movies were banned from their house because of their depiction of his then-unconfirmed general people was less than good
They did their best raising him)
As he grows old and meets people from the same culture as is...
He realizes that he is still an outsider
He is too odd for them, he didn't grow up with their culture - habits, language, religion, ideology - and so he will never truly fit in, no matter what he does or how hard he tries to pass
Just like with the culture he was raised in
Never belonging to anywhere, always too different
Always too different to one side, always too much like Them, the outsiders
Always having to play himself down in the other side, never being able to truly be himself because of the Risk of showing what he can do and how that might piss off people and make them hurt him
