Early on when Philip was distressed because he can’t remember his family, he’s fretting the whole time worrying about Philip’s wellbeing not just physically but emotionally too. He wished he knew how to comfort him but Philip at the time didn’t like being comforted that way. Which lead to Shotaro giving him space whenever he was distressed, while silently hoping Philip would open up to him at some point.

And when he saw Ryuu, someone he didn’t exactly see eye to eye with initially, cry, all he could think about was helping him.

Ryu: don't ask me questions

Shotaro: ok I won't ask what a gaycation is and why she was talking about it

Ryu: *stops* a what?

Shotaro: oh now I have your attention apparently she used that phrase and Sachika-san said "is that what Shotaro and Philip are calling it?"

Ryu: I have no clue what that is or where she heard it

Shotaro: Philip and I aren't together why would she say that?

Ryu: you're not?

Shotaro: *bright red* what no!? I'm pretty sure Philip is ace

Ryu: oh, I think we all just assumed it because you've kinda acted like a couple for a long time

Shotaro: wait what do you mean we?

Ryu: pretty much everyone

Shotaro: does Philip know this?

Ryu: *shrugs* probably not he's smart but not very socially aware, he didn't realize two men could be together until Tokime showed up remember?

Shotaro: *face palms* are you busy after work? I think I need a drink

Ryu: can't I promised Haruna I'd take her to the park after my shift maybe next time
