aroace jack who thinks he's in love with peggy because she's his bestest best friend and he's (never had a best friend before?) never had a woman best friend, never even HEARD of a man and a woman being best friends. is this anything
I can 100% see this happening. Bless his hopeless aroace heart, he has no clue what feeling he is experiencing. He hears that when you're in love with someone you 'want to spend all the time with them and hanging out with them' and thinks he's in love with Peggy.
'You've never been in love?'
'Just answer the damn question, Sousa.' Jack is pretty sure the heat in his face is the result of his two double whiskeys. Either way, the light should be dim enoughâand Daniel likewise inebriated enoughâthat he would not notice.
'Well,' Daniel sits up straighter, 'you...can't stop thinking about them. You think about the fun things you want to do with your gal. When you don't see them, you miss them. When you think about them, you feel all flustered and your heart races...those ring any bell?'
'Mhm.' Jack does not trust his voice as he feels his face heat up even further. He just gives a noncommittal hum.
'So who's the lucky gal? Do I know her?'
'N-nah. Just, someone I met.'
'Guessed so. The only women we both know are the phone girls, and they are hardly your type.' Daniel finishes his drink in one.
'And Peggy.' Jack says before he can stop himself. Daniel levels him with a look almost instantly, his eyes surprisingly clear for how many drinks Jack has plied him with. He nods awkwardly.
'...and I just...it would be nice to spend all my time with her.'
Jack jumps at Howard's unceremonious laugh. He leans forward, and gestures loosely in Jack's direction, the expensive bourbon sloshing out of the tumbler.
'You, Chief, my friend,' Howard slurs, 'are an idiot. Have you ever had a friend?'
