It's not going to be a super fast way to get his attention THAT way unless there's some sort of emotional bond established. But it helps to feed him to get his attention. He likes you over all? Congratulations your an adopted human beings brought home where it's safe. Where he thinks it's safest for his humans.

John's really affectionate once someone is under his protection. Even platonically-inimate, courting is long game thing with this man. Even if he's more relaxed then before, as a friend said it, he's emotionally constipated so things take a while to shake loose.

It will help to not try something when he's in full fight, or coming off the high if aggression, or cuddle modes. You would need to catch him first after showers, give him a snack to get his attention again. As long as you're not firmly rooted in new son/daughter role you can bring up your want to court and or do thiiiings.

Admittedly it's a 50/50 change from there if your getting to do said things or pinned in some very intense cuddles. Either way, you won't get out of his hold once it's there, unless you make it clear to stop. Slayer /John won't do anything to hurt his people. Won't push you since he knows in some level he's.... intense.

It may not seem like it, but John is scared of hurting who he cares about. He can do self care, if stopped, and just cuddle.

If things keep going and go intimate? Hope you don't have plans in the post apocalypse. You'll be likely be camped in his rooms recovering. On theme, once you wake up, John will bring you food and water, humming or giving that happy, big deep rumble of his. Get cuddled, and likely petted.
