"My goal is to become the first African-American principal dancer for A.B.T." -Misty Copeland . In 2014 Misty said these very words in an interview with The New Yorker. One year later, this dream became a reality. She fought hard for this reality even after being told that she didn’t belong - her skin wasn’t light enough and that her body didn’t resemble that of a white ballerina. BUT she made history and proved that Black women and girls can be ballerinas, too. . I had a chance to hear her speak live about her journey in 2015 and was INSPIRED by her story and her commitment to break down barriers. I learned that being ‘first’ comes with its challenges, but can also be rewarding. Fast forward to today, it is SO dope to see her take this message of empowerment to another level. 🔥 . Yesterday she launched her 2019 #mistysignature x @underarmourwomen collection and it got me like OKURRRRR! From the softness of the fabric to the thoughtful designs to the colors (c’mon GOLD!), I am SO impressed and honored to be on a team that is committed to putting her badassness on display. #teamUA #wewill .
