It's hard to find the words that expresses the deep sadness and grief I feel for Jasper's people right now. They fought so hard to give Jasper the best quality of life possible as the DM began to take hold. Jasper was their family, and they have lost a part of their hearts in letting him go and doing right by him. It takes so much strength and love to let someone go who is suffering. We all knew last year, when they shared the diagnosis, that this day would come. We all prayed he'd have more #DiamondDays to share with his Uprights, because two more sincerely kind and generous souls would be hard to find. They gave so much to others, and there's so little we can do to give back. I was told about a Race at Your Own Pace to Shade Out DM tomorrow, and that a #TeamJasper has already been established. I think it would be an appropriate and fitting tribute to continue the fight for more accountability in requiring testing standards (that wasn't available before Jasper was born) for ALL breeds affected by DM, and better treatments to give as much time as possible for every dog to be with their Uprights. You gave me hope and smiles in some of my darkest hours in the almost decade since I found your sweet face and hilarious antics. Your Uprights sharing bits of their life with you has changed more people's lives for the better than could be easily or quickly measured. Go frap free, run and play with all the fur babies who are waiting to give you the wings you earned in this life. Enjoy all the green beans, apples, cantaloupe, bacon, and every other one of your favorite vittles. We'll look after your Uprights in this world as you watch over them from the rainbow bridge, that's the least we can do for all they've done for you and for the community they built on kindness and joy.
