Tales From the Sword Coast- Damien’s Quest Part 1: Finding Treasure in The River

Damien Steddfoot is a young Lightfoot Halfling that always dreamed of adventure. He would obsess over stories his elders told him as a child of the wondrous outside world. Tales of fantastic beasts, noble knights, mysterious magicians, dragons, and giants filled his dreams ever since childhood. He wanted nothing more than to become an adventurer and see the Sword Coast. For a halfling, this was a great distance from his home of Silverymoon. So, adventuring always seemed just out of reach, until today.   While searching the riverbed next to his home, where he usually goes to find precious metals and other little knick-knacks that the other villagers have lost, Damien finds a piece of jewelry buried among the rocks.

Tales From the Sword Coast- Damien’s Quest Part 2: From A Time Long Forgotten

The artifact is covered in an ancient text that Damien does not recognize. It is a beautiful silver amulet, encrusted with jewels surrounding a large, bright green emerald. After the shock of excitement wells up in Damien's body, he rushes to Wyndall, the tribe elder, to see if he might recognize the ancient language on his new-found treasure. Damien finds Wyndall in his study, reading old scriptures as he always does. He is always finding new information to learn. Upon inspection of the medallion, Wyndall's face goes from calm to one of shock and wonder. He explains that the language on the medallion is one that has been all but forgotten. It has only ever been spoken about in legend.

House Dragavei of Ustalav are known for two things: the first is that they are not the family they once were, their holdings ravaged by centuries of being in the grasp of Tar-Baphon. The second is that the taint of undeath is strong amongst them, a result of the Shining Crusades and the deliberate mating with the aristocratic Moroi of Ustalav.

That much is true for the current eldest scion of the family, Valerius; he is a dhampir but closer to the grave than most, and he is unafraid to use that supernatural strength and charm of his Moroi parentage to his advantage, to help restore his family's ancient name and renown. Once, he did this by being the silver-tongued prince of Caliphas' courtrooms, often defending aristocratic criminals and getting them to walk free, earning his family their social betters' good will and their coin to keep up appearances.

One fateful evening after celebrating the success of his client's case, the client invited him to a clandestine gathering on the next moonless night; the client's goddess was pleased with the work Valerius had done in the courtrooms, allowing many of her worshippers in Caliphas to walk free. She wished to see him made into a champion of the faith.

Urgathoa's faith gave Valerius, who had won so many of these cases that he was growing bored, a renewed sense of purpose. It also tapped into his basest desires - the thrill of the hunt; delights both sanguinary and flesh; a constant hunger for more - and it is no wonder that by the time he was sent on a manhunt that crossed into the corrupted Worldwound, that he had a reputation among the faithful for being one of the most zealous and ruthless champions of the Pallid Princess in Ustalav.

1. Who cooks?

i imagine freyr is actually a decent cook, and is especially good at foraging and hunting for his own meal. grimhild isn’t bad either, and can be very self-sufficient if she needs to be, but she doesn’t tend to have the patience for cooking.

12. Can they stand silence? Who talks the most? Who talks the least?

freyr can’t stand it being too quiet for too long, and is often compelled to add commentary or a smart remark if things get a bit too tense. he’s definitely got better at sitting with his own silence as he’s got older, but he still prefers to fill it. grimhild is the opposite, and enjoys being alone with her thoughts sometimes. it’s why she and kratos immediately connect - she’s the kind of person who says what she means, and isn’t prone to babbling. talkative people like freyr don’t frustrate her though - she finds it endearing almost, and likes not having to be the one to constantly speak her mind.
