The Swan Inn, Swinbrook

The Swan was chosen because it was midway between our home in London and the home of our guest who lives in Gloucestershire.  Well, it’s not quite halfway, but it was an enjoyable place to spent a couple of hours catching up with news. My friend and I had been the closest of buddies when we were eleven, probably till we left school at eighteen. Then came a long gap where we were completely out of touch, until the school decided to have a reunion and we met up again. Standing in a room full of elderly ladies (one of which was, of course me!) I immediatey gravitated to my old friend and since then we have been trying to make up for the lost years.

 I have to say that we weren’t paying that much attention to the food. The garden, with chickens running around, and the beauty of the Cotswold setting made it an ideal place to spend a relaxed lunchtime.

The food was good. I had an excellent salad of roasted beetroot with caramelized walnuts and goats cheese for a starter, followed by lemon sole with golden raisin and a lemon and caper butter sauce. The other two had roast rump of lamb with a parmesan croquette, which was deemed very good (the meat slightly pink for one and well cooked for the other).
