You stared down at the paper that Sweets had so happily told you about. He had the chance to publish a paper, you were so excited for him, but now, after reading it, you were just angry.
âHe used meâ you thought to yourself. His article was full of quotes and stories that you said. Things you told him in confidence. The parts of this job that tore you apart. That kept you up at night. The secrets you told only him. Now they were written in a paper for everyone to read.Â
âY/n!â you heard your voice said excitedly behind you âOh, you read it! What did you think?â his voice seemed so un-bothered, almost hopeful.Â
Turning, he immediately saw the anger on your face âWhat did I think? Sweets, what the hell is this?âÂ
âWhat do you m-â
You cut him off âDonât act like you did nothing wrong Sweets. You betrayed my trust!â
âWhat are you talking about?â he seemed to surprised, he really didnât understand what he did wrong.
âThese are my words Sweets! The words I told you in secret!â
He seemed to begin realizing what you meant âWell, I thought that they would help others, I did-â
âThey werenât meant to help others, they were meant to help me! You were meant to help me, not put out my secrets for everyone to read!â
âBut I didnât use your nameâ
âYou didnât have to use my name Sweets, their still my words. My secrets. I thought you were a shrink, your suppose to be good at keeping secrets!â
âIâm more than just a shrinkâ he said almost defeated
âReally? I thought so too. I thought you were my friend. But apparently notâ you said as you moved to walk past him.
âWait!â he said as he grabbed your arm to stop you.
Roughly pulling your arm away you turned towards him, tears starting to buildâGet your hands off meâ
Sweets recoiled in shock as he saw how hurt you were âY/n, I-â
âDonât. I trust you Sweets. I went to you as a friend. I wanted you to help me because I trusted you. And all you did was write down my words to use for your own fameâ your voice was low, hurt.
âNo. I didnât- I thought- I thought that it would help you. For people to realize what you did for this job. I didnât mean to hurt youâ his voice was small, broken.
Some of your anger dissipated when you saw how guilty he felt, but you werenât going to forgive him, not yet at least.
âWell it did hurt me Sweets. You could have asked. That was the least you could have doneâ you said before turning and walking away, leaving Sweets to watch as you turned your back on him. Guilt filling his every core.
By the end of the day your anger had faded a little. You realized that, maybe your words would help others, maybe not to feel so alone. But you were still hurt, and you would be for a while. You were hurt, but not angry.
Looking up when you heard a quiet knock, you werenât surprised to see Sweets standing there, his hands going to his pockets while he looked shyly at the floor.Â
âFinally decided to come in then?â when he squinted, confused, you continued âIâve seen you walk past my door like three times before finally coming inâ you said, a light smile finding itâs way to your face.
The smile was small, but enough to give Sweets a little confidence. Taking a step closer he spoke quietly, avoiding your gaze âI just wanted to apologize again. You were right. I should have asked, I shouldnât have put your words into that paper, that was a horrible thing to doâ
âIt was. But Iâm not angry at you anymore. Still a little hurt. But not angryâ this provided Sweets with a little comfort âI also realized that you were right. Maybe my words will help someone elseâ
He took another step closer âEven if they do. And I hope, and think they will. Iâm still sorry for doing it without your permissionâ
Sighing you stood up âWell, I know what you can do to help ease the pain a littleâ
He looked up at yo hopefully âYeah, what? Anythingâ
âBuy me dinnerâ you said putting on your jacket and grabbing your bag.
Sweets smiled âYeah, okay I can do thatâ
âNot just this once though. You own me like three meals. And some coffee tomorrow. And the next dayâ you said walking past him.
He chuckled behind you while following you out of the office, grateful that you didnât hate him. He knew he still had some apologizing to do, but this was definitely a start.
