Another Bicentennial
I saw and photographed this SW1500, of the Indianapolis Union Railway, a few times in 1976. I'll work on getting the locale.

Eve for the TP&W by Mike Danneman Via Flickr: On New Year’s Eve in 1983, the original Toledo, Peoria & Western only had a few more hours to survive before becoming part of the Santa Fe. At the East Peoria Yard locomotive facility, GP38-2 No. 2006 is flanked by SW1500s Nos. 303 and 306 on December 31, 1983.
 Illinois Terminal Railroad Company
Here we see an assortment of Illinois Terminal motive power in Decatur, Illinois. It’s kind of strange that I shot these in black and white as the locomotives were painted in a striking bright green and yellow scheme. Operating in central Illinois, this railroad began as a traction line and evolved into to handle only freight. It was merged into the Norfolk and Western in 1982.
Here is a rundown of the units depicted—all of which were manufactured by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD). Number 1504 is a GP7 that was built in 1953. Number 1513 is an SW1500 that was built in 1970. Numbers 2304 and 2305 are both fairly rare SD39s that were constructed in 1969 (EMD built only 54 of this model).

SW1500 North Western Pacific 1501.  The oscillating Gyralite is part of the trademark Southern Pacific headlight package. Here, it lights up the underside of Highway 37 in Ignacio, California (South Novato) as train NWP 1501 North merges onto the double track Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) corridor (if I interpolate the location accurately) -- a practice that to me shows any light rail company could do industrial traffic, if they wanted to actually get trucks off of roads.
