Illinois Terminal Railroad Company
Here we see an assortment of Illinois Terminal motive power in Decatur, Illinois. It’s kind of strange that I shot these in black and white as the locomotives were painted in a striking bright green and yellow scheme. Operating in central Illinois, this railroad began as a traction line and evolved into to handle only freight. It was merged into the Norfolk and Western in 1982.
Here is a rundown of the units depicted—all of which were manufactured by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD). Number 1504 is a GP7 that was built in 1953. Number 1513 is an SW1500 that was built in 1970. Numbers 2304 and 2305 are both fairly rare SD39s that were constructed in 1969 (EMD built only 54 of this model).
