Gingersnap, one of my kittens, saw the automatic feeder in action and he was a bit spooked at first.
^ The plastic panel opens when a pet with a registered microchip puts their head under the white arch. I use it to prevent the dog from eating the cats' food.
Anyway, Gingersnap was sitting a ways away from it with that look of confused concentration that cats get. Noticing this, my 20 year old cat Booster got up and walked to the feeder. He put his head under the arch. Very deliberately looked at the kitten as the feeder opened. Then moved his head away; the feeder closed. Then he did the same thing again. Then Booster walked away without eating anything.
It was so sweet, and Gingersnap caught on right away. (I had to hastily press the button to register the kitten's microchip because I hadn't added him to the feeder's memory yet, ha ha.)
