I have suppressed anger as an outlet for years.
I remember when and how I decided I will never ever react in anger and at the time when I made that choice, it was justified and it was right. I have since often struggled to get angry even when that was the right way to react, because what replaced anger was anxiety and self doubt. It’s not that I don’t get angry, it’s that I rarely let anyone know that I am. I act on it privately and often with no audience. I draw boundaries but coldly and without being dramatic.
Getting over that took time and self acceptance. Swearing under my breath and while alone helps a lot. I have been told many times I am intimidating and that people don’t want to test my patience. I find that funny, considering I never outwardly get angry. I just know how to say “no” and stick by my decision. I am never violent. Mainly sarcastic and very very honest. I guess that hurts most people more than raising my voice.
