Chapter 2: To the Hideout π¬
Chapter 1
"Of what use is a dream if not a blueprint for courageous action?" -Adam West
Time seemed to slow down as the students of McDuffie High as the final math test was under way. Even though this school housed some of the best students in the country, the pressure was on for the students. None of them wanted to get anything lower than an "A", or else face the disappointment from their teachers, or worse their own parents.
Some were sweating under the stress despite the air conditioned room. A girl looked out the window for a villain to show up and take the school hostage. One boy was hoping someone would pull the fire alarm and cancel the test. Others prayed that they got at least half of these complex problems right.
One kid however was asleep at his own desk.
A red-headed boy was snoring softly away as the minutes ticked by, the test still under his arms as he used them as a pillow while he slept. The test had been going on for nearly two hours, and contained nearly a hundred questions covering sections from multiplication to algebra. It was quite a lot of information to learn. Some of the students wanted to wake him up before he got in trouble, until-
RRRRRRIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGG!
The sleeping kid woke up startled as he saw kids hurriedly answer the last of the questions and rush straight to the teacher's desk. Ms. Prickle was the kind of teacher who would fail students who didn't finish answering everything on the paper. Either finish it in the time allotted, or you failed.
"Now don't go and think you're supposed to go off for fun and games during this Summer." Ms. Prickle announced as each student handed her their papers and walked out of that classroom as quickly as possible. "I don't want your brains turning to mush when I see you this fall. I suggest you take time to review as much as you can before you return."
The old lady had the best intentions for her students, but if she could make the class study all year round, she would. The woman could also sniff out a slacker amongst a crowd. And one kid always seemed to defy that outlook.
"Mr. Wilson, if you've gotten enough sleep, perhaps you have enough energy to turn in your paper." she said as she neatly compiled the test papers in a stack.
Tim Wilson yawned loudly and stretched his arms as if he just got out of bed. He lazily slugged his backpack over his shoulder, picked up his test and walked over to the teacher's desk.
Ms. Prickle eyed Tim's rather shaggy looking appearance as he approached. His fashion choices were atrocious, choosing duller green and blues for his slightly tattered clothes. His hair was so long his eyes were completely covered. How could he have possibly taken the test when he couldn't even see it? Don't even get started on his appalling growth of hair on his chin.
"You know very well I don't tolerate unfinished work. Did a question stump you so long that it put you to sleep? Or perhaps you have another 'reasonable' explanation?" She tutted, taking the paper from his hand.
"Nah, ma'am. I just got bored waiting for everyone else to finish and took a nap. I finished over an hour ago." Tim replied with a grin.
He sounded way too confident. "Very amusing, Mr. Wilson. Perhaps you could become a comedian if your career in taking fast food orders doesn't work out. Good day." She took a pen and got to work grading at once.
Tim playfully waved her off. "See ya this fall, Old Prickly!" Tim laughed as he raced out into the hallway. Once he was near the door, he pulled out his skateboard and started surfing through the crowd of students leaving. Most of them shouted at him to watch where he was going, but he didn't hear a thing.
Too bad Tim didn't get to see Ms. Prickle's wrinkled face when she discovered that his work resulted in a 98% percent score. It would've been a complete 100%, but he didn't want to show off too much.
As he was cruising down the sidewalk, he checked his phone and saw message from Jason: "Meeting at the hideout after school. Bring comics and snacks."
The boy grinned as he read the text. "Sweet! Now I can finally show them the new manga I found. Its making my bag weigh a ton..." His backpack was usually filled with books, but not the school kind. More on the side of being graphic novels. Manga tended to be thicker than comics and when you pile a lot of them together, they could feel like bricks.
But that didn't stop Tim from getting them. He was more than glad to cram comic books than textbooks for the next three months. The kid zoomed across the street as he effortlessly dodged civilians and construction vehicles in his way. He did quick calculations in his head to make sure it was feasible, and the whole city could be used as a skate park to him.
Meanwhile, in the greenhouse of McDuffie High, another young student was more excited for a current project: Taking notes and extra care for the plant life within it.
"You're all looking wonderful today! Now I won't be able visit you guys for the rest of the Summer, but I was sure to give the janitor a very detailed instruction pamphlet on how to take care each and every one of you while I'm gone." A girl with long black hair announced in a light yet chipper voice. She looked up at the friends she was leaving behind and her smile faltered.
"Please don't be sad, my friends. I promise I'll be back in fall. Besides, I'm sure the Janitor will be great company!" She patted a large row of daisies on their petal as if they were small children. Yes, the girl was talking to the plants in the greenhouse. Don't you do that?
Cassandra Miller had always basically anything and everything having to do with nature. She not only loved the planet and the vast amount creatures that roamed it, but her absolute favorite was the plant life.
Her clothes were always in tune to the nature around her, (At least that's what she says) wearing floral printed blouses and pants whenever she was in an area surrounded by plants and other flora life. Cass seemed to glide as she walked through the last rows of marigolds and watered them as if she was a rain cloud. She loved to take care of the greenhouse and check up on the little ones before going home. And since it was the last day of school, she wanted them to get special attention. Feeding, watering, trimming, the works.
Just as she finished, her cell phone began to ring. Normally she wouldn't bring an electronic device near the plants, (the waves are bad for them.) but she was waiting for an important text from Jason. Cass received the same message as Tim, but her heart couldn't help but flutter when she read it. Jason rarely called or texted her outside of school, so even the smallest of notes were enough to enjoy.
"That's right, Richie was supposed to tell us something important for tonight! I sure hope he finds the comic I found to be enjoyable as I did." She noted as she put her phone away, placed the watering back on the shelf and blew kisses to the flowers within the greenhouse. The school bell rang just in time.
"Goodbye, everyone! I'll see how much you've grown when I return in fall!" Cassandra laughed as she closed the door behind her. She ran around to the front of the school as fast as she could to meet Tim and one other friend at the steps of the school. The girl saw tons of students spill out of building and instantly saw Tim Wilson skateboarding out of the school.
"Tim! You were supposed to wait for me and Carrie!" She shouted as she tried to catch up to him. Cass looked through the crowd for her other friend, but didn't see her. She would ask, but the other students usually ignored her.
"Shoot. Just missed him." Cass sighed. "Wait for me, please!" She called out even though he was way too far away to hear. She decided to take her chances and go on foot. Hopefully she could reach the hideout before the others went on without her.
Across the city, we return back to Richie and Jason still racing to their super secret hideout. A.K.A just an abandoned mall. It was once one of the biggest shopping centers in the country, but shut down once the appearance of superstores and their catering to both heroes and norms, the original "Supermall" just didn't stand a chance. Now it had become the top secret center for Richie and his friends.
Jason immediately tagged the front of the door. "Ha! Made it!"
Richie was out of breath as he finally caught up. "No fair, you're already an athlete. Of course you won."
Jason scoffed. "Not because I want to be. Besides, you're the one who made the bet. So better cough up that pizza money."
Richie laughed nervously. "Yeaaaaah. About that. I actually didn't get my allowance this week. Soooo, can you pay for it today?"
Jason gawked at him. "Then why did you make the bet if you didn't have the money?"
"I try not to worry about small details like that. The important thing is we had a good laugh, right?" Richie slapped on a smile and pretend it wasn't a big deal.
Jason rolled his eyes and decided to change the subject. "Didn't Carrie say she was already here? I don't even see her." he grumbled as he looked around.
"I am here." a monotone voice came from behind the two boys.
They both yelled as they jump backed in fear. By the looks on their faces you thought they had just encountered a ghost.
"Jeez, don't scare us like that. I nearly had a heart attack!" Jason snapped as he tried to catch his breath.
Carrie Rodriguez stepped out of the shadows and into the sunlight. she wore a purple leather jacket and matching boots. "Sorry, I scared the 7 foot tall football player out of his gym socks." The girl lightly chuckled.
Jason muttered. "I'm not that big." He then looked behind Carrie, awaiting for someone else to show up. "By the way, wasn't Cassandra supposed to come with you?"
Carrie nodded. "By the time I cane out of the school, both she and Tim were way gone. I just took my own path here."
Jason's face looked slightly dejected hearing that. "Oh..."
Richie took his chance to pounce. "What's wrong, upset you don't get to chat with your girlfriend all alone?" He jabbed him in the arm.
"She's not my girlfriend, Rich..." Jason muttered as he pulled his hoodie up to hide his face.
"With that attitude, that's probably why." Richie tried to stifle his laughter.
That got Jason to react as he put Richie in a headlock and gave him a large noogie. Richie tried crying uncle, but the big guy never relented.
Carrie felt like she was watching to brothers have a ridiculous spat. "Would you stop acting like idiots and-" she was cut off when she heard someone yelling in the distance. At first she thought someone was in danger until she turned and saw somebody in the distance.
Carrie squinted and saw The shaggy genius Tim heading towards the rest of the group, calling out to them. Carrie's usual deadpan face disappeared and a rare smile briefly appeared. Then she noticed that he was coming fast. Very fast.
The girl warned the two fighting boys to get out of the way before they got hit. Carrie simply stepped to the side as Tim zoomed by her shouting, "Watch out, watch out, watch out!"
That caught the two's attention as they saw the guy about to collide with them and dodged out of the way just in time. Instead of crashing into them, Tim instead fell straight into the bushes. Before any of them could check if he was okay, he crawled out of the bushes himself, covered in loose leaves. "I'm okay! You dudes finally made it here too?"
Richie raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean? We've been waiting here for you to shop for like a hundred minutes."
"Well, you know the early bird gets the worm." Tim pointed out as he brushed the leaves off himself and looked for his backpack.
"You were the late one, Tim." Carrie said as she left him behind to enter the mall. She didn't let him see her smile.
Tim groaned as he slugged his heavy backpack out of the bushes, which felt like he was carrying bricks rather than manga.
Jason looked back at both sides of the street to see if Cassandra was behind Tim, but she was nowhere to be seen. The guy was starting to get worried. "Wasn't Cass supposed to be with you?" he asked.
The red head scratched his head, then his eyes widened. "Ooooooooooh. Yeah, I totally forgot about her. I'm sure she'll turn up."
Jason had a quick flash of anger. "You didn't even bother to check? You son of a-"
"Come on, we're burning daylight! Cass will show up eventually, she's not that fragile. We'll just wait inside for her. Plus we have to check on our little friend and make sure he's okay." Richie pointed out as he opened the door.
Jason wasn't exactly letting the guy off the hook, but he sighed in defeat. No use in getting upset now, he wasn't going to resort to fighting. He opened the door, but noticed that Tim was still standing there, looking at the street, then his watch.
"What are you waiting for? We've got to go upstairs, remember?" Maybe he felt bad and was waiting for Cassandra after all?
"I ordered some food on the way here. Pizza dude's got 30 seconds." He answered as he never looked up from his watch.
Jason looked at him stunned. "Did...how did you know that one of us was going to lose that race? Is that why you weren't looking for her?"
"Time's up. Three bucks off! Hehe!" Tim cheered in honor of his now free food. Looks like he was going to stay there and wait for it to arrive.
Jason shook his head and entered the mall, leaving his pizza obsessed friend outside.
The remaining four friends entered the giant building. It was hard to believe that this place was once a bustling center for so many people. Now it was part of a long gone era and full of empty stores. It felt nostalgic and haunting at the same time. After a trip up the broken escalator, the kids made their way up the second floor. Passing by what used to be clothing shops, video game stores and even little toy shops, they soon reached the entrance to their main base.
Young Richie entered the dark store, which looked like a haunted video game level as he looked around for someone. He could at least make out the large cat tower in the back of the store.
"Rocky Road? You in here? Its us!" Richie called out as he flipped the switch on.
A furry head popped out of the cat tower in the corner and sniffed the air. He could smell his pack had returned! Once he heard them calling for him, he fully exited the top of the tower and climbed his way down to the floor. However, Rocky Road was no cat, but in fact, a raccoon. And you couldn't find a more loyal raccoon than him in all of the world!
Once he saw Richie enter the room, he leaped up into his arms with excitement, his red collar shined as the fluorescent lights above began to flicker on one by one, revealing a large area that used to be a comic book shop. It was now refurbished by the gang over the years to be their "secret" hideout. A place of refuge from school, bullies, pressure or just a space where they can fully geek out about their collection. It was now filled with posters, figures, file rows full of comics and manga, and of course a TV for when they all could watch a movie together without fighting with family members for the remote.
Rocky Road here stays in the mall, so that he has more than enough room to run around and explore as he waited for the gang to return. Sometimes it feels like years pass even though they visit practically every day. When they arrive, he always greets them the same way: crawling all over them in excitement and in search of food.
"Hey, buddy! You missed us?" Richie laughed as he could feel the raccoon literally crawling all over him. The creature barked in agreement, then saw the others entering the shop as well. He jumped to each one to greet them and checked through their pockets. No snacks this time, oh well. It was still good to see them.
Rocky chittered back in agreement. Though it may seemed like these kids had a bit of an overactive imagination, they all talked to Rocky no different from each other. He was basically the mascot and the sixth member of the team. And it always seemed like he understood them.
When he was done greeting them, he scurried over to the other side of the room and plopped in one of the beanbag chairs and grabbed the remote in his paws. He chittered a question to Richie.
"You read my mind, Rocky. The Hero of the Month special is coming on pretty soon. Everyone is just taking a hundred years to get here." said Richie, grabbing the remote from the raccoon.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, Tim didn't even wait for me or Carrie. That was just so rude." Cassandra said as she entered the room, wiping sweat off her forehead from the heat.
Jason immediately took notice he saw Cassandra come in. He grinned and helped her inside. "Don't worry about it. For a genius, Tim is an idiot sometimes. I can get you a drink, if you want."
Cass' warm smile was enough to make Jason blush slightly as she thanked him.
They sat in their usual spots around the table and put their respective finds together as a collection. Rocky got near the comics and started sniffing them curiously. That wasn't food, but it still interested. Richie looked at his friends and noticed one was still missing. "Did Tim get lost again?" He asked.
As if on cue, Tim burst through the door holding two large hot pizza boxes in his arms. Between that and the heavy backpack he was carrying, the skinny kid looked like he was going to fall over.
"All right, food's here! Wise men say, βforgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza." Tim proudly announced as he ran through the place and dropped the greasy pizza boxes on the table. Unfortunately they also landed on the comic stash they just brought in.
The rest of the gang immediately protested as they scolded him and tried to get their comics out of danger.
"Just what comics need: pizza stained variant covers. That'll make them valuable." Carrie rolled her eyes and pulled her stack from the pile.
Richie attempted to save the rest of the comics as fast as he could. "Dude, watch where your putting that! This stuff isn't as cheap as it looks." He quickly made sure not a drop of grease was on them, or their value would decrease instantly.
Tim was only half paying attention as took the load off his back. He swore he was already getting a hunch.
"Tell me about it. I found this manga stash at a garage sale, and had to pay an arm and a leg to pay for it all." Tim commented as he showed the group his heavy backpack filled with manga. He then stopped for a moment in thought. "Wait, didn't I buy a story about that?" He trailed off then shrugged.
"You know you can't actually do that, right?" Carrie commented.
Tim groaned. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Let's just show off our stuff already." he could see Rocky eyeing the boxes, waiting to pounce on the pizza.
Richie had his usual picks, Lion-Man and Boost the Badger's comic spin off, plus trying the new Braveheart series for something new.
Jason got a mix of manga and comics with Shadow's Realm, Tribes of the Amazons and a comic reimagining of Peter Pan.
Cassandra had found the first few issues of the sci-fi series called Apollo Wolf.
Tim shared his manga haul featuring volumes of One-hit Wonder, Duo Leveling, Heroes Academy and Iron Alchemist.
and lastly Carrie had collected more of her favorite comics, Raven's Cove, Lunar Knights and Professor Peculiar.
Once they finished, they all talked about how their last day of school went over pizza. From finals, to bullies, summer plans and terrible cafeteria food. It seemed like some mundane things in comparison to what goes on in Excelsior, but it felt like a piece of their own world could be shared.
In truth, they could spend hours here. Just hanging out, sharing comics and chilling out together before going home. Richie, being an only child, felt like he found siblings he never knew he had. They were way more to him than just fellow comic book nerds and friends.
The blond boy looked at the clock and realized that almost an hour passed. The special was going to start any minute!
Richie quickly shoved another slice in his mouth, grabbed the remote and quickly flipped through many channels trying to find the right station. Five thousand channels and yet still nothing on. "Come on, why can't I never find when- wait, here we go!" He exclaimed as he reached the ENN channel. It was the only channel that broadcasted superhero news and events seven days a week.
Once again the face of John Anchorman appeared to greet the viewers. "Good Afternoon, citizens! Welcome to our 'Hero of the Month' special! Our resident supers have been working hard to keep our country safe. And what better way than to celebrate their achievements than by voting for your favorite heroes!"
The entire program was created to boost some heroes popularity after a few veteran heroes weren't being recognized by younger viewers. This way audiences of all ages could learn about the heroes who came before them. Its proved to be a success.
As the special went on, it showed the list of ten heroes for the month, then John announced they had reached the top 3 heroes as they neared the end of the program.
"I bet its Mighty Eagle!" Richie hoped as he waited in anticipation.
"Rich, it's always Mighty Eagle. That's why I never vote." Carrie commented as she was reading Apollo Wolf.
Richie was shocked. "How dare you, you're supposed to be our friend!"
"I'm sure that he's the fan favorite. But I do hope its Sister Twister!" Cass said as she pet Rocky on her lap.
Richie sushed the rest the group as he turned his attention back to the TV.
"Our top 3 heroes are..."
"Number 3: Brimstone. The mysterious hero who fights against the so called 'supernatural' villains. While footage or images of this guy are scarce, today we have a rare video from an anonymous source. Many witnesses have told stories of Brimstone suddenly appearing out of nowhere and bringing justice just before vanishing as quickly. Let's take a look!"
A short video showed a massive red bull with glowing yellow eyes carrying an axe as he appeared from a cloud of smoke. With a heavy swing, he cut what seemed to be a man with large fangs in half, turning him into ash. Once the threat was gone, he immersed himself back in the smoke and disappeared with it.
John's voice returned to narrate: "Seems more like smoke and mirrors to me. He's not even a registered hero! But I guess the people have spoken. Now let's get to our second place hero, and this one will blow you away!"
Number 2 showed Sister Twister. The heroine used her great power of weather manipulation to stop the villainous Captain Man O' War and his mutant shark army from attacking a beach side city. She caused a massive hurricane that drove the army away from the fleeing citizens.
Cassandra cheered. "She may not have won, but she's still a winner in my book." She was never a competitive person, so she was more than happy that her favorite hero even placed second.
"And at #1...." a drum roll played to build up anticipation, then a hero with an eagle mask burst through the card as a special effect. He then flew through the air at great speed with a victorious grin on his beak.
"The one and only Mighty Eagle! He's not only the number one hero in Excelsior, he's the greatest hero in American history! A living legend!" John himself seemed to be more excited for this one, just as Richie was.
The program then showed the hero doing various feets of heroism. From putting out fires with strong blasts of wind from his makeshift wings, to subduing ten robbers at once to keep a local bank safe, to even saving various cats and woodland creatures from a forest fire somewhere across the country.
Then it panned to another screen and showed the proud man standing with various heroes standing on either side of him as the background glowed a vibrant gold.
"As leader of the World's Finest, he's dedicated his life to serve and protect his country at all costs. For the last several years, he's had help in his fight against evil with this team of brave heroes by his side."
The camera then panned to each member for the team and displayed various pieces of footage showing their heroic feats.
Dark Owl: The vigilante turned from Mockingbird Heights. With his enhanced night vision he can stalk evil when the sunsets.
Angel Warrior: With her bow and arrows imbued with heavenly powers, Angel can immobilize enemies with a shot of her arrow. Along with her golden shield that shines as bright as the sun itself, she can defend the defenseless wherever she goes.
Cheetahman: The man with the speed of a cheetah, uses his feline speed to hunt down villains in the blink of an eye. If you plan on causing trouble, better run the other way, or you'll be his next hunt!
The Terrestrial: The alien from Pluto who's proven to be a true during they're time on Earth. With their shapeshifting DNA, they can become anything or anyone they want.
Sister Twister: powers can control the weather and atmosphere, Twister uses her abilities to prevent naturalβor unnatural βdisasters from destroying cities and towns around the world. Given the amount of villains wanting to level parts of the Earth for their own gain, she has her work cut out for her..
And but certainly not least, Mighty Eagle: America's own symbol of peace. Together they truly make up the World's Finest.
"That's going to be us up there one day, guys." Richie commented as he watched in awe of the legendary hero team. "We can be heroes too."
The screen then cut back to John Anchorman (this time, the original) "And that concludes our special! Make sure to cast your votes for next month. Who knows who'll be at the top next time! Now we leave you with special live footage of Mighty Eagle facing off against the current monster attack. See you tomorrow, true believers!" He signed off with a wink.
As promised, a helicopter camera showed the fight happening near the beach. It showed a giant octopus monster dripping with water and ink as it approached the shore. Mighty Eagle had arrived on the scene to fight his newest opponent.
"Fear not, Excelsior! The Eagle has landed!" The man exclaimed as he flew towards the monster. It roared in protest as Mighty Eagle landed hit after hit, angering it further and swiped its own tentacle beard at the hero to fight back.
A catchy heroic tune filled the room just as the program was ending. Richie pulled out his cell phone and saw his father was calling. Uh oh. The only reason either of his parents called this soon in the day is if he had to come home early for chores. He then remembered he was supposed to mow his neighbors' lawn, since they had gotten much older and couldn't do it themselves. Now, Richie loved his parents and all, but he just didn't feel like doing that right now. He'll be happy to help later on.
Richie ignored the call and resumed watching the fight. He could hear his friends cheering on Mighty Eagle as he fought off the tentacle monster. He fought with bravery, but it was clear that the monster was splashing ink whenever it was punched. Seems like it was going to be a lot to clean up when the dust settled.
Another cell phone rang, this time Jason pulled his own out and looked at the screen. The name made him turn pale. "Uh....its your mom." he sheepishly said.
The other three looked at each other. They all had parents that could be overbearing once in a while, but somehow Richie's mom could always tell when he was trying to get out of something. No matter how far away he was. Well, there was no way she was going to let her spoil the fun. She means well, but the boy just wanted to at least his first day of Summer. "Jason, just let it go to voicemail, its cool."
Jason looked like he was getting forced to admit to a crime he didn't commit as his eyes darted between his phone and Richie.
"Don't. You. Dare." Richie warned through gritted teeth.
Finally the pressure was too much for Jason and broke. "I'm sorry, I can't lie to your mom, she trusts me so much!" Jason winced before he answered the phone. He quickly put on his friendliest voice. "Hello, Mrs. Rapids!"
Richie buried his face in his hands in defeat. He just wanted to stay here just a little longer, was that too much to ask? "Don't tell her I'm here!" He mouthed to Jason.
"Uh...yeah! Richie is here, and so is everyone else. We're just hanging after school." Jason couldn't help but tell the woman the truth. When it came to the safety of her son, she trusted Jason the most to watch over him. Making sure he didn't stay out too late or get into trouble. Mrs. Rapids could tell when he was lying, so the boy never chanced telling her a fib to cover for him.
After a long gap of silence he then nodded a couple times. "Sure thing, Mrs. R. I'll be sure to tell him. He'll get home safe, I promise!" The large teen hung up the phone and looked at his younger friend.
"Yeah, your mom needs you to come home to help the neighbors mow their lawn. And if you try to get out of it, you can't go to the Starfall Shower tonight." Jason said it so fast, it was like he was trying to rip off a band aid. "Look, if you don't go, then she'll call my parents and we'll both be in trouble."
Alas, Mom had the upper hand. Richie groaned. "Fiiiine. I'll go home and help." He grabbed his own backpack and prepared to leave. "Make sure you guys lock everything back when you're done. See you tonight." He gave Rocky Road a good scratch behind the ear and headed out.
Cassandra stood up and went to Richie before he left. "Richie, I needed to ask you something. About the shower tonight, are you sure you really want to do this? What if things don't go as planned and we don't get powers at all?"
That was a question the rest of the gang had for a week. Richie was betting so much on this event, he never thought about what to do if it didn't work.
Richie laughed off the suggestion and pulled out a flashlight. "Relax, I know it'll work. Tim did all the calculations ahead of time. All we need is one star, make sure we all touch it at the same time and we'll finally more interesting lives. Being heroes."
Tim rubbed the back of his neck, but didn't say anything. Despite his intellect, even he could be wrong once in a while. He just didn't have the heart to tell Richie.
"Tonight's the night, guys. I can feel it." Richie said as he gripped the flashlight in his hands. "We're going to be heroes."
Author's Notes:
Wow, its been a minute since the last chapter, hasn't it? I've been working on multiple projects at once, so it took a while to get back to this. I also have a Silver the Hedgehog fanfic in progress and choose to switch back and forth between that fic and this original story. But I've also got another couple designs of the characters done, along with setting up a guide to the SuperZeroes universe!
Now that you've met the rest of the team in this one, I hope you like them. Or at least some of them. π One of my inspirations for this is the 2003 Teen Titans series, so I wanted a similar team dynamic in here. Even though they're all comic book and superhero fans, they still have their own separate interests aside from that. Richie is the only one that seems to be fully obsessed with heroes all the time, plus being a huge Boost the Badger fan.
Really wanted to show how the group is as friends before they become heroes, some set up for the major heroes when the main plot kicks off, and drop some more references here and there. The next chapter is going to bring in the big Starfall Shower event that's been talked about a few times here, and its probably the first semi emotional scene I've created so far! It'll be a little bit before I complete the whole thing, but I promise it will be worth it. Feel free to leave any questions or comments here too!
Thanks for reading!
