I roasted this back in the day because of how tame his power level was, but this is a young Superman story done right.

This show tackles cool characters & concepts ranging from Mxy to Darkseid to the Legion of Superheroes.

And featuring a Kara (NOT Bore-El) surprisingly that doesn't piss me off with her very existence. Imagine my surprise to find out she's NOT miraculously Superman's Cousin who ALSO just happened to survive the explosion because Jor-EL just HAPPENED to have a brother who JUST HAPPENED to be a Scientist who HAPPENED to have exact same idea to Kara but for some reason not himself or his wife.

Fan-fic tier garbage. GARBAGE.

But Kara In-Ze decent, she's a good kid.

In fact, I wish Kara In-Ze was in that Superman Returns deleted scene when he went back to Krypton, and he finds her on Argo or something. Some of kind of payoff for that 5 years he was gone

Back to the show. Clark is a sassy, witty chad.

He's not some Him-bro purse puppy like someone else I know in recent memory I wish I could carve out of my skull. He's a vanilla dork big-brother (like Welling's take) who's underwhelming enough to sell the role but not overdoing it to point it's cartoonish & annoying.

He’s good at his job, both of them. And the more times he puts on the cape, the more the universe expands, the guy just attracts trouble and all he’s tryna do is the right thing.

I thought initially him not being overtly geeky would've defeated the illusion but in fact he's still so bland as a person compared to Superman he doesn't have to go out of his way to try not be suspicious, which now that i'm thinking about it would make him more suspicious.

And the sass carries over to Superman, this character (from here to JLU) cops attitude A LOT, it's funny see. A very human Superman with a wide range of emotions as he's in this Superhero career, yet stoic and collected and I love it.

Stubborn as an Ox at times, especially as he gets older & develops more of an ego. He's a leader, but not beyond all reason. A good guy, reliable, very human.

In fact, in a lot of ways, a Shonen protagonist with a hint of slice of life..

I like this guy.

Besides Smallville/ Superman/Superman & Lois/ hell even that Lois & Clark show was charming-

This is THE post-modern Superman, done right.

Honorable mention: 40's Fleischer Superman

I recommend TAS to JL & JLU, since it is technically one timeline (though JL S1 he was nerfed to shit), but it's all part of his story.

Top 3 favorite Lois Lanes of all time. 

The music is so peaceful, grandiose at the same time. The composer (Shirley Walker *Rest in peace*) did the tracks justice, she did her part to bring this project to life with a sound reminiscent of Williams work.

I really like the Retro-Futuristic aesthetic of Metropolis and various other set pieces compared to Gotham & Smallville, it genuinely looks like a city of the future. Reminds me of the Jetsons

Check out the making of Superman: The Animated Series, unlike a certain recent sloppy attempt at Superman with a certain "Lois-Chan" this take possesses so much care and thought & premeditated design.

The character writing has that old-school wit to it, it's mature. Well executed. Where most of the characters sound witty, snarky but professional it has the 40s - 1950s chemistry. Very solid. Vs these days where most characters are random, loud, quirky, talk too much and just annoying lol

As far as Superman lore goes, one of the few things they didn't put in there was Eradicator, Superboy, etc. This show COVERS a lot of the groundwork of Superman content. 3 Seasons+ of content- even Livewire is in here.

If I were to have a complaint (and no it's not Kara), it would be the pre-Singer/Snyder era of how his powers are presented and engineered into visual/sound format. I really like how Singer introduced Superman causing sonic-booms

-and how Zack translated his power into fights.

In TAS show it lacks the aesthetic, the punch/emphasis, he's strong but.... it doesn't lean into it enough for me at times.

Kind of like how My Hero Academia has the visuals down 10/10 but the SOUND EFFECTS are soooooo weak, just a punch of whooshes 24/7, it's so frustrating lol.

Again, It's very tame but while it's underwhelming, how he flies is sort of majestic, like he's gliding on the air, very angelic.

And he is young and the later installments pick it up eventually.

And as shown Supergirl represents some good feats too (And I am proud to say that because I actually like this version of Kara)

Surprisingly My Adventures with Lois-Chan tried to mix it up with the sfx & action, but even that show was lacking in so so so many areas, but I'm going to leave that alone for now.

Superman: TAS

I need this more seasoned, tougher/older Kara to replace the cheerleader, vanilla supertoken cosplayer.

NW Kara looks like see’s seen shit, done things, been there, experienced. And she has her own life now with this little one.

So sick of looking at this: 

Just eye candy, glorified Superman cosplayer with no impact or real relevance (Correction: She’s had impact but usually when she fucking died lol), when most of the Robins have more going for them in terms of storytelling intrigue than Supergirl, there’s a problem.. 

Cause every time she dies an honorable death or a good idea or concept is introduced for her (Red Lanter/Daughter of Darkseid), DC just keeps bringing her back to square ‘BLAND’ one.

Fact is, she needs to stop riding Superman’s coattails & do something else.

Become a plumber, something, anything. jfc.

OR like when the Viltrumies infiltrated Earth to live normal lives per the Thragg/Mark/Nolan truce

Have her raise her child with a spouse (male/female) out in Norway or something, she’s a First Responder and she can take care of situations/dangers with her powers when they show up, very lowkey.

She doesn’t want to be a costumed “superhero”, but wants to help. Then when big Crisis events happen, she gets involved in Kryptonian Ceremonial garment.

Or do everything i said.... just on ANOTHER PLANET- where a full-blooded Kryptonian would be needed. 

That’s different enough from Clark to where she can do hero stuff, live a life, and it’s not her wearing his colors just for the sake of it. Like she’s following the trend or something.

Superboy Conner, clone of Lex & Kal, serious identity crisis story. 

Young Justice Superboy, a lot more mortality, acceptance of self, also anger issues, & other lessons learned with this version of Conner.

Then Clark Kent (Prime) who was such an unstable mess, killed so many, while believing he was the hero. Dude was menace.

Eventually ended up getting his shit together and saving everyone, multiverse scale.

SERIOUS fall from grace/redemption story.

In terms of Superman Lore: SUPERBOY PRIME is how you do a knock-off Supertoken- right.

I’m going to commit to skimming through her recent arcs to see if there’s anything worth reading (Supergirl Rebirth #1 was underwhelming) DC REALLY needs to venture out their comfort zone & canonize something different for Kara. 

Red Hood is proof that a spinoff character doesn’t have to coattail ride the original template; She doesn’t need to pull a “Supergirl being SUPER” & basically be Clark.

Let her be something of her own, and what that is doesn’t have to be entirely nice or appealing, which is where her staying power is, just a cutesy female superman. RULE 63 Gimmick appeal

Guarantee you, as soon they do that, she’ll evolve beyond that surface level appeal and will blow up & actually have a stake in the DC Universe beyond being token female superman and being present in Crisis events.

Otherwise she’ll remain in the hamster wheel cycle of being a non-factor, side attraction.

I’ve read some of the Danvers matrix arc back in the day, weird but i appreciate the attempt BACK then to do something different. Wouldn’t mind if they brought her back.

Read some New52 Supergirl, bought the #1 day 1 it dropped back in 2011, hated her goddamn suit. Really liked her anger issues/flaws, & how that tied into Red Lantern but ofc that didn’t last.

The Batman/Superman debut for her introduced the Darkseid thing ofc not only did that not go anywhere but they killed her, as she died saving Superman, Superman’s alone again, which is his part of tragedy, good. 

She died honorably.............

....then she came back anyway, lmfao.

Hell i prefer Caitlin Fairchild over Supergirl

Smart as shit brawler, on the shy side, yet ironically the bonified LEADER of her team because she knows what she’s doing. 

Not a knockoff of anyone, the one & only Fairchild of Gen13.

Nuclear Winter, as simple as it was is worthy of being canon. I want an animated short for this, the works.

KARA In-Ze is in fact THE BEST Kara take in post 2000 just by not being Kal’s miracle Fanfic cousin, but NW Kara is close 2nd because of how off-brand she looks. And the actual story, like Mad Max but Older Kara..

One of the most interesting Kara’s for me in years and all they did was get rid of the midriff & skirt, the girl next door appeal, allow her to grow up and adopt a child; Now she has a real, tangible responsibility.

Something of her own. And that is something they did right vs the DCAU where she just got gaga eyes for Brainiac all of sudden.

DCAU did right by divorcing her from the EL House ( only because DC wouldn’t let Timm use Kara Zor-El, thankfully) and Nuclear Winter did right (by her responsibility not being a love interest) 

Not that a partner isn’t a good stake (I’ve suggested Kara having a family myself many times) but the way NW did it? Better than my own pitch ngl.

they should fire whoever edited that crap, It's like they stitched it together to make Kara everything but interesting or cool.

A typical sci-fi adventure flick you'd see from novel adaptation like Divergent or something, forgettable. The point of the trailer is make you feel: "I have to SEE this!"

What the hell is marketing even doing?

I'm probably one of the most consistent supergirl criticizers on the internet and even I have to admit she deserved better than that, what the fuck.

The music was dogshit too, she doesn't even get a cool thematic score, no original theme to define the sound of her character like Williams did for Supes, nah she gets some wonky song.

Which tells me the OST is likely going to be full of songs and mediocre stock Hollywood.

I hate the teen graphic novel vibe, not enough of the villains & the one that I wanted to see, he's in it for like 2 seconds which tells me he's not going to prominent enough in the film in a way to make it one of the best CBM of this decade or push Kara to proper limits in development or him serving to be her foil--

(because LOBO is also the last of his people, but for different reasons. Will the writers explore this dichotomy to exploit a proper arc for Kara Snore-El? Calling it now, probably not)

The plot as is looks as boring as Kara looks, Krypto literally pissing on Superman (I hate that damn dog).

And it doesn't even exploit the ONE thing people claim is so interesting about her (not rly tho) the trauma of seeing Krypton go poof. (SB-Prime did it better)

It's like the Trailer wasn't even trying. I didn't watch the SuperGunn trailers when they first dropped, I managed to watch the final trailer after i saw the movie twice, I didn't give a shit.

But I was excited to watch this trailer, pure curiosity. And this is it?

Superman sees the good in everyone, she sees the truth: the FUCK does that even mean!?

Dialogue was horrible edited movie-nese, gave me nothing to invest in the damn girl.

Since I didn't drop the Superman 25 review yet, I'll say it right now. I did NOT like that movie, saw it three times. It was a mess, a fun, goofy piece ah crap.

And because of that, I'm 1000% game for SUPERGIRLS Movie to be better, I cannot stand Supergirl as a concept but I am down for this to be a good movie but if the teaser was this dry, this film is in trouble.

Cause otherwise, and I say this often: If you're going to keep bumping Kara infront of the line, AHEAD of Starfire, Raven and Cassandra CAIN--- just to do nothing with her, why even use Supergirl in the first place.

At this point, after 65+ years and for me personally over 20+ watching over this character, THERE HAS to be a time where they accidentally do something right with her that'll genuinely redefine this box they keep her in, not that Self-help "find yourself" bullshit King's Woman of Mediocrity aka "Woman of Tomorrow" did.

I mean genuinely set the bar for how this character is written going forward, PLEASE for the luv of fuck.

Cassandra Cain can't get a fraction of the corporate shilling Kara gets, but what Kara gets in actual practice is the cruise control of fucks to give. Why even push her in the first place as if she's lore essential (she's not) but she's here, great, and the TRAILER is this dry?

I would've had Kara taking space ships apart, getting her ass kicked in intergalactic fight clubs, fighting warlords, throwing Asteroids: lightspeed feats we should be seeing from Superman.

LOBO breaking her bones and she has to outthink him in a rematch. Show her physically vulnerable because she almost loses her life.

If I directed this shit, Kara would be out there, I'd even go the In-Ze route and reveal she's not related to Superman, and by the end she becomes her own person, no suit, no cape, just Kara starting her own legacy, building a new krypton in another galaxy.

Would I dump all of that in the teaser? Fuck no, but the teaser would be leagues better than this shit.

I hate supergirl as a concept with the burning passion of 1 million suns times decillion, but i'm 100% game for that film to possibly be better than Superman 25, deadass. It has the advantage of being second, to learn from the previous mistakes-
