Oooohhhh, please expand on the queer things Hal says to Clark during his Spectre era!
I love whenever Hal basically describes Clark as 'the best of them all', and how much he believes in Clark's goodness and capability. Hal has seen so much as a GL, and understands that Clark is one of the strongest beings out there, but uses his powers for good, and is an inherently good person as well.
There's just so much affection there (even if it's just platonic) that I find quite heartwarming.
Would love for one of them to somehow get affected by a truth serum or something that lowers inhibitions, and they just keep giving all these compliments or constantly flirting - saying all the things they kept in their head and heart until then.
SL anon :)
I reread the beginning of JLA/Spectre: Soul War (2003) to see if it was as queer as I remember, and guys, it was even MORE queer. this is RIDICULOUS levels of queer. Like??? themes of acceptance, Hal saying Clark inspires the brightest of us, (also lowkey armchair diagonosing Clark at the same time lmao), being protective over him, fucking MERGING with him (get OUTTT of the way superbat fusion, hal and clark did it before u guys!!!), "more than that, he was my friend," THE SYMBOLISM OF CLARK BEING FULLY HUMAN AND FULLY GOD LIKE JESUS AKA THE SECOND ADAM AND HAL SAYING HIMSELF "BIT THE APPLE" LIKE BIBLICAL ADAM R U FUCKING KIDDING ME WHAT....... , "i fell...far and fast and hard"
there's also The Spectre (2001) issue #24 where Helen has a birthday party, and Superman is invited
very sweet <3
Re: truth serum. I actually have a small WIP where there's established clarkhal, and Clark is high because of kryptonite + painkillers he had to take for the surgery to get the kryptonite out of him. he's so loopy when he gets out that he doesn't hold back on giving Hal physical affection like he usually does, which embarrasses Hal in front of all their friends <3
I've been having Spectre!Hal + superlantern thoughts recently also... I've been talking abt this a little bit with Birdie, but like they're such interesting foils when Hal is GL and when Hal is the Spectre for much different reasons. GL Hal and Clark are the inverse of each other: Clark is so afraid of hurting people with the massive powers that he's had since being a kid, whereas Hal is so fearless that he earns powers because of that; Clark is an alien who adopted Earth as his home, Hal is a human who goes out beyond the stars for adventures; Hal is a human with a god complex whereas Clark is a "god" with a "human complex". On the other hand, I think Spectre!Hal and Clark are two sides of the same coin: they both now wield massive power (not that Hal wasn't powerful before, but he's on a different level now, and his concerns are different) and are both very careful and conscientious about what to do with it; but Hal does so much good because he wants to redeem himself, to make up for what he's done in the past, whereas Clark does so much good because that's just what he does.
also: i think Clark would find it really relaxing to not have to worry at ALL about not physically hurting a partner because the Spectre is so much more powerful than him and also doesn't really have a corporeal body in the conventional sense.
also also: I think it would be really cute if Clark became Helen's third (fourth? if u count Abin Sur) coparent because it could be this dynamic where he's like Helen and Hal's tether to humanity and he just helps them feel normal by taking them out to diners and taking walks in the park with them and shit.
