Do druids pass the horn as part of any drinking ritual or is drinking a part of any celebration or ceremony?
Passing the horn (specifically) is a thing in some individual druid groups, but possibly more in eclectic groups. First I want to make mention of a ritualĀ called a sumbel which is more of a Heathen or Asatru tradition.Ā
Iāve attended a couple sumbels, in which a horn of mead is passed and we drink to the gods, the horn is passed again and we drink to the ancestors, the horn is passed again, and it devolves into boasting and toasting and gets really loud after that.Ā
In terms of druid rituals that Iāve attended, passing a chalice is much more common than a drinking horn. I think there was a drinking horn at Northern Roots Groveās 2016 midwinter solstice ritual filled with āViking Blodā mead. Good stuff, by the way.
In a Keltrian ritual the mead makes the rounds while everyone sings the Mead Chant:
Ā Pass the cup and share the bountyĀ Of this golden mead.Ā Oh milk of clover, yeast and bee,Ā Unite us in our creed.Ā Pass the horn and share the blessingsĀ Of this sacred brew,Ā That all may know the joy to beĀ The Children of Danu!
It sounds somewhat similar to The Ballad of Gilliganās Isle which makes it a fun song.
Of course, no RDNA ritual would be complete without passing a chalice of the Waters!
And in ADF rituals, the chalice is imbued with a blessing sought through divination:
And then the chalice is passed in affirmation of the blessings.
As for AODA, OBOD, or other big name druid order rituals, I donāt have any experience with their rites, so Iām not sure if a sacramental beverage plays a part in them or not.
I smoke two joints in the morning I smoke two joint at night I smoke two joint in the afternoon It makes me feel all right I smoke two joints in time of peace And two in time of war I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints, And then I smoke two more
