Space Shuttle Columbia began it’s 6th mission (STS-9) on 28 November 1983.
The 10-day mission carried the first Skylab into orbit, and also carried the largest crew to date, including Commander John W. Young (on his second shuttle flight), Pilot Brewster H. Shaw, Mission Specialists Owen Garriott and Robert A. Parker, and Byron K. Lichtenberg and Ulf Merbold – the first two non-NASA astronauts to fly on the Shuttle (Merbold was the first foreign citizen to participate in a shuttle flight).

When asked where the astronauts were stationed in the Spacelab, John remarked, "I stay up on the flight deck. Every time I go into the lab, they try to draw my blood."
