is this anything: chinese international adoptee eva stratt. eva stratt who's autistic but everyone around her growing up said "no you're not autistic, you're just asian" (because everyone knows that all asian girls are humble and quiet and demure). stratt who grew up alone alone alone. never as close to her white friends as her white friends were to each other. with parents who witnessed her coming home crying from school because her classmates called her a racial slur or a dog eater or something, only to tell her to 'just ignore it'. eva stratt who's been sexualized and objectified for her ethnicity and has trauma from it, even though she doesn't conceptualize it as such. eva stratt, excelling in school, because everyone told her that all she would ever be good for was academic achievement (yeah you asians, you're just naturally smarter); she became what everyone told her she was. it's why she didn't know what she wanted to do with her life once she got to college, because she'd been subconsciously conforming to outside expectations the whole time.
she learns mandarin, for her job. she thinks she'll never sound native and she feels strange feelings every time she speaks it. she makes up for it by learning to write chinese really well. and then she gets put on project hail mary and moves to the vat. there's chinese people on the vat, and yeah, they look like her, but they regard her (a chinese woman who's never lived in china, she acts so european, does she even count?) as an outsider, and they look at her with the same invasive curiosity as the kids in her kindergarten class asking her whether she could speak japanese. She keeps her distance and she feels normal. She's fine. it's fineeeeeee
AUTISTIC EVA STRATT POST
After my first watch, I was convinced that this diva is autistic, and after the second watch, this is all I can remember to prove it. I trust you all to see my vision, but regardless, the evidence:
Something about the name Eva having its root in words such as ālifeā or āto liveā is so sickening to me.
Eva Stratt is earthās best chance at living. They chose the woman whose name legitimately means life.
Humanity chose her for the tough, terrible decisions which needed to be made to ensure that at the end of this terrible darkness there would be a dawn.
That at the conclusion of the apocalypse, when victory was achieved (because they had to believe they would win) there would be humans and humanity enough to live again.
To dance in the rain and get bruises. To fall in love and make bad decisions. To hear bird song and sing songs.
Eva Stratt would be their villain so humanity could win against the cold end. And she did it.
But she will never be able to walk the path of her victory. Eva Stratt will never get to be the woman from before the project, who woke with the sun just to hear the birds sing their songs, who hiked and danced and loved the world so deeply it felt like drowning
Eouggh.
eva stratt is trending the world is healing

eva stratt would call all your comparisons of her situation to the trolley problem bullshit, then tell you to get back to work or leave, because she has a planet to save.
Eva Stratt is such a woman of all time.
She could've been an archetypal villain, ruthless and one dimensional, especially since you're supposed to root for Grace, but I am so glad she is far from that. Sandra Hüller plays her with such depth. You can tell that, despite sending them to their deaths, despite keeping her distance, she really does care about the astronauts.
Her affection for Grace in particular grows over time, and it nearly bleeds out of her every time they're in the same scene. Urging everyone to clap for him when he discovers the Astrophage are cells, as well as when he enters the conference room aboard the ship, singing to the crew (while for everyone, but specifically for him). And "I didn't mean to bother you" "You don't bother me" and knowing that she means it because she's blunt enough to say it right to his face if she didn't.
When Grace says, "It must be hard, having to ask everyone to, you know..." and Stratt replies, "Actually, it isn't," but when she asks Grace not to struggle as he's being taken away, you can see that for one moment, it is, so much so that she nods as almost if she's re-convincing herself that this is what she needs to do.
She is Earth's scapegoat, a duty she accepts with equanimity, a woman who loves Earth so much that she is willing to make great sacrifices for it. Even to sacrifice someone she loves just as much. Even though it hurts.
free my girl. yeah she did all that and i do care but not for the reason you think. she did it so NO ONE ELSE had to.
