------- Strakk, the Irredeemable -------
Okay, but like... The Legend Reborn had such an issue with Ice characters. Strakk failing to concede the fight, Metus doing... all that, and even Gelu for not being in the movie at all.
Next up, the OTHER disgraced Glatorian of note, Malum! ...who I guess is technically in the movie. T . T
Sketchbook Bionicles
Strakk
I feel like in 2009 Strakk probably come across much more negatively, especially to the kids, but reading Bionicle as an adult and an artist in this day and age, with all the union strikes going on, it casts a completely different light on his character.
Basically, Strakk hits different in 2023.

Ice cold warrior and blazing barbarian!
Strakk striking Ackar after the match was finished makes absolutely no sense, and the way he's described and how he speaks in the movie novelization does not sound like him at all
It came out of nowhere, with no reason and it felt completely out of character for him
Like... Strakk is someone living a relatively comfortable life for a glatorian in a wasteland. He has the status of his village's main fighter, meaning he gets the most matches, which he is paid for (y'know, the thing that matters to him more than anything).
WHY would he do something that would make him lose all that? It's stated several times in the past two books that he doesn't want to do anything that doesn't benefit him. Doing THIS would 100% end with his exile. It makes no sense for his character to do this.
There are very few things I didn't like about the story execution in Bionicle but this is like... a thing I majorly disagree with
I'm having a really hard time understanding what the book wanted to do with him at all because like... He is written as a jaded character who has valid reasons for being as he is, but he is written ABOUT like he's a minor villain?? When he hasn't done.. anything wrong???
In "The Exile's Tale", Strakk is shown doing what Mata Nui does in the movie - jumping into the arena to stop one fighter from killing another. He knows exactly what Malum's actions would entail. He's not stupid. Why would he go on and do the same thing?
It genuinely feels like the movie wanted to use an existing character that already had a figure and Strakk was the meanest of the bunch so they just inserted him in that role no matter how much it didn't make sense.
My idea of age spans for the Bara Magna inhabitants (main cast)
Ackar ; Late 40's - Early 50's
Kiina ; 16 - 17 (this woman doesn't act like an adult istg)
Gresh ; 17 (same with this mf)
Berix ; 8 - 10 (I will forever believe he's malnourished/mutilated halfie Agori Glatorian kid on the streets it just makes the most sense to me)
Tarix ; 27 - 30
Vastus ; 28 - 29
Strakk. ; 30 - 32
Tuma ; 29 - 30
Metus ; 56 - 57 (man has that experience with being a snake (pun intended) so yeah, older than Ackar but not old enough to be for village elders)
Raanu ; 79's - 80's (I imagine the village elders are usually between these ages, even with mechanical upgrades from the Great Beings that ended up to be even genetic with enough trial and error to be fully successful with the lack of basic resources it would be heck of survival skills to live so long to those ages and ofc those skills would be taught but luck also takes in turn as well)
Cervantus ; 21 - 28 (I imagined one of the greatest Glatorian's, Cervantus would be one of those young prides who rises ranks pretty quickly at a young age (like Ackar as well) before his death)
Malum ; 26 - 29
