Forever insane about the relationship book Stratt and Grace have, the way both of them are slowly driven together because of how they both hold the world at a distance, for different reasons. And how they might have been better off without that relationship in the first place!
the fact that Stratt will trust Grace with the most important decisions about the world/the project, but never anything about herself. The fact that their whole relationship is unrequited in the sense that Stratt cares about Grace (checking on him first thing post Shapiro/Dubois explosion), but Grace never really sees her as a person, only as the figurehead and an authority. The irony is that Grace is unreciprocating and oblivious to his importance to her, despite being the person who’s supposed to be more sociable and friendly.
how maybe it is because of this coldness that Stratt allows Grace to get close to her: she can never put herself in a position where she can be fully seen or be vulnerable with someone else, when she has to put aside her humanity to save the earth. And Grace is perfect, because of how he sees her and believes her to be that image she tries so hard to project (and nothing more)
How it didn’t save her from being hurt in the end, because the knife cuts both ways. That Grace betrayed her as much as she betrayed him when he refused to go on that ship. And then she realises that the one person she had shared her burden with, the one person she had thought was on for the ride the way she is, isn’t. That she was right to hold everyone at arms length, that she really is the only person that can be trusted with this.
