On the heels of A$AP Twelvvy’s release, groupmate A$AP Ferg keeps the momentum going with his own banger, Still Striving. Jumping off with a feature from Meek Mill was definitely risky, but proved successful as Philly’s finest actually delivered one of his best verses this year on Trap and a Dream. Moreover, Ferg just knows how to effectively utilize features, rather than being outshined on his tracks. Ferg managed to combine Dave East’s gritty charm and his unique sound in perfect street harmony for Olympian as well as not over using Lil Yachty’s distinct vocals on Aww Yeah. He never donned another rapper’s artistry and for that alone, Still Striving is dope. With pieces of 36 Mafia and Ludacris throughout the album intertwined with the energy A$AP Ferg brings to every table, Still Striving is action packed rap with no sing-song fluff. You find yourself bouncing uncontrollable to jams like Plain Jane, Rubber Band Man feat. Cam’ron, and Nasty (Who Dat) feat. Migos. No skips, no skits, just music. The beautifully done cover art pictured A$AP Ferg in his blue durag rocking a pinky ring, basically foreshadowing what musical greatness to expect from Still Striving—ass shaking, hood anthems. I am pleased.
