Maiko is near and dear to my heart ❤️🧡💛. I love exploring their relationship throughout their lifetime; how they grow as a couple and as individuals. Because when things start out Mai had a cute little crush since childhood that Zuko was kinda oblivious to but Azula and Ty Lee knew, and somewhere in those six months in Ba Sing Se, they fell in love. Mai betrayed not just her nation but her own family, condemning her uncle to death, basically, to save Zuko's life, and while that moment wasn't her catalyst imo, it was a huge moment that solidified them as endgame for me.

❝ Thank you , Mai . . . I appreciate it . ❞ I think . She gave a small shrug as she shook the thoughts from her mind , bringing her attention [ [ fully ] ] back to Mai .

❝ I think you're really pretty , too . I know Zuko thinks so as well . I know he's [ [ always ] ] thought so . You can tell by how he smiles when you walk in the room . ❞

“...I was going to,” he mumbled, though even to his own ears it sounded like a weak excuse. His shoulders sagged with a defeated sigh. “There were petitions this morning, then the council meeting ran long, and General Bujing needed my approval before the supply ships left. After that there were reports from the colonies...” He rubbed the back of his neck, grimacing. “I kept thinking I'd eat after the next thing, and then there was another next thing.”

His eyes dropped briefly to the floor before lifting back to hers, unable to hide the faint embarrassment coloring his face. “I know, I know.” He exhaled through his nose, hands lifted in quiet surrender. “I'll eat.”
