Rabbit lies flat on his stomach on the side of the road, chest heaving and flush to the pavement, right arm partially hidden from sight inside a storm drain. It’s hard to tell if the moisture pooling beneath him is rain or sweat, but he’s covered in it. He looks like he’s run a marathon or fought ten men; in reality it was only two and one chucked his mask down the drain, where it now hangs, caught on the wall just inches from his fingers. Not that he needs to, being the spectacle he already is, Rabbit seeks attention from the ankles of a passerby. “Fella! Hey, fella!” he calls, too cheerful to be covered in gutter water. “Yer arms look longer’n mine--- you wanna lend a hand?”

Boy, that’s a teenager if ever he’s seen one. That’s definitely a full-blown teen approaching him, there’s no mistaking that. When the boss said he’d have a kid tagging around with him for a little while he’d expected someone old enough to be able to buy a beer, but this is something else. Did he do something wrong? Is this punishment for something he hasn’t realised was against the rules? Shit, was it when he said that thing at Paulie’s party about Lou’s wife’s dress looking like it came out of a bargain bin? Fuck, he’s getting closer. He comes to a halt about a foot and a half away from Frankie and there’s a moment where they’re just sort of looking at each other. Frankie’s thinking, so this is how it’s gonna be, huh. This is it now. This is who I am. He eyes the twitch of the kid’s hand, expecting him to go for his phone and start twitting. What do kids like these days? Fortnite? What if he starts talking about Fortnite? Frankie doesn’t know shit about Fortnite.
“So you’re with me today.” Should he be intimidating or personable? Can he be intimidating, like, morally speaking? This kid couldn’t scare the paint off a car. If Frankie pulls out the big guns he might shit his pants. He looks like he weighs three pounds soaking wet, and under that shock of red hair he’s all long and skinny and milquetoast. Frankie pinches his cigarette so he can talk. “A’ight then. Introductions. I’m Frankie Mariano. You can call me Frankie. Not Frank. Not Mistuh Mariano, we ain’t in English class. What’ll I call you?”
The St. Ides Remixes, coming summer 2026, is a nostalgic tribute to the iconic 90s St. Ides beer commercials. I was never big on drinking, but I always thought those gritty ads were funny. With remixes from Tupac, Rakim, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, and more, it’s all about that raw, vintage vibe. Available on cassette and digital download this summer.
