A Scythian mounted archer as depicted in Etruscan art, early 5th century BCE. Metropolitan Museum of Art (ID: 1989.281.78) This statuette, consisting of a separately made archer and his horse, undoubtedly belongs to the lid ornament of a Campanian bronze cinerary urn. The archer wears the distinctive Phrygian cap and fitted jacket of a Scythian. A complete cinerary urn with four similar archers on the lid (40.11.3) is on view in this case. (MET)
Ukrainians who didn't grow up in the East of Ukraine:
"Winter in the East is like an alternative reality"
Me:
🥹🥹🥹 FINALLY SOME ACTUAL WINTER LANDSCAPES
Jokes aside, this might look shocking or even scary to people who didn't grow up in the steppes, but this view was the view I grew up with. On the contrary, when I had to evacuate to the central Ukraine in 2014 away from the Russian invasion, and later traveling the West of Ukraine, I've always had this acute feeling of "I MISS THE SKY " Which, logically, makes no sense - you can still see the sky in other parts of Ukraine, but it is not the same.
I mean, just LOOK at this:
I used to feel sort of boxed in and missing the sky for the first 5 years of living in Kyiv. Hills and forests of the Northern Ukraine are beautiful too and the mountains in the West are simply breathtaking, but... not the same.
