Are STDs more commonly found in males or females?
It all depends on the STI. Some STIs are more common in males and some are more common in females. An important thing to note is that STIs can impact females more severely for a few reasons.
· Less likely to cause symptoms in women, so they are less likely to get tested and treated.
· Untreated STIs can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, and infertility in women.
· Women are more likely to develop cancer from HPV than men are.
The good news is that women are more likely to see their doctor and get tested than men so they are more likely to get tested and treated. If you want to get tested, call WMHD at 801-399-7251 or 801-399-7252.
