I'm still new to cosplay. I did Shanks once and plan on doing him again. Anyway for the cape, i had a friend make it for me (the rest of the outfit was thrift shopped) and i can't get the collar to stay up. I was wondering if you could help with stiffening it or something similar? I pin it to my shirt so it won't just fall off and it drags my shirt back but I think pinning my shirt to my pants will help with that. Do you have a tutorial on how to safely bind my breasts so i can open the shirt?
Have you tried to starch the collar? This would be my first recommendation because it is widely practiced to make collars stiff outside of the cosplay world. (1 2)
If this doesn’t work I would suggest opening up the collar and adding interfacing. This is often iron on and really easy to do, but would involve ripping the seams of your jacket. (1)
Another way that might work, but would also involve deconstructing the collar, would be to add in a thin, flexible wire around the seam to make the collar more flexible. I’m having trouble finding a tutorial for this but here is a post discussing wire in cosplay (1)
As for open binding, this is potentially really dangerous because you need to use tape to open bind, but luckily for you I’m trans and know my way around this predicament.
Some warnings before I get into it:
Never bind with duck tape or ace bandages. These can very easily damage your ribs. If anything starts to hurt, stop as quickly as you can. If you end up binding with a traditional binder, only wear it for a maximum of 8 hours. I strongly recommend to not buy cheap ebay binders and invest in a gc2b or underworks binder if you’re buying anything.
Binding with KT tape or Trans Tape is the only way of safe open binding that I would consider to tell you guys about. (1 2 3 4* 5)
if anyone wants more information on binding (open or closed) feel free to send in an ask!
