Over the next few weeks, CVTC will be hosting the Spring 2020 Career Fair at several locations! This is open to employers, CVTC students, and alumni. To help you prepare, we’ve put together the dates, times, and locations of each event. Additionally, we’ve compiled some tips for you to get the most out of a career fair. Tips for a Rewarding Career Fair:

Dress for success

To give the best first impression, be sure to dress professionally. It’s recommended that you are interview ready or dress business casually. Though it’s cheesy, remember that your attitude is part of your attire, and confidence is key.

Practice a pitch

Part of a career fair is knowing how to sell yourself in a short period of time. You may only have 30 – 60 seconds to let a representative find out who you are, so it’s important to know your main points. Practicing before the event will allow you to know your strengths and weaknesses and what you can offer a future company.

Bring the goods

Though it’s not required, it shows preparedness to bring copies of your resume, pens, portfolios, and any business cards/contact information you may have. If a company is looking to hire, this may be the clincher in getting an interview.

Do your research

Before you arrive, look at the companies who are coming, and investigate their mission, products, staff, etc. If a particular business sticks out to you, be sure you have enough time to visit their booth. Only ask questions that can’t be answered with information found on their website. An example question might be this: “What is a typical day like in your position?”

Be on time

Even though the event lasts for a few hours, don’t come rushing in with 20 minutes left of the career fair. Some companies may be packing up at this point, and it implies that you are often rushed and untimely. If you have limited time, visit a handful of companies in which you have the most interest.

Network

It’s all about who you know. Now is the time to find things you have in common with company representatives and create connections. If you’re looking for an internship, this is a perfect place to find potential companies you may want to partner with.

Thank each company for their time, and grab a representative’s business card so you can follow up.
