Lately you have been down in the dumps. You have felt stupid and like a failure after your first minor mission on the enterprise failed and the captain had to come and pull you out of the mess, while it seems small to others it really took a toll on you and your productivity. And Spock was the first to notice.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
You were sitting in your room, attempting to do some work despite the turmoil brewing in your head, the whole situation really messed with you. You sighed and leaned back against your chair, a knock comes from the door and you sit up.
“Come in”
You said casually as Spock entered the room, his eyes landed on you, his hands behind his back as he spoke. “I’ve noticed a rapid decrease in your productivity more recently. I believe it to be because of that mission you were on. Am I correct?”
“Damn I really can’t hide anything from this man.” You thought as you sighed before speaking, “yes…it’s because of the mission. happy? I’m just- I’m so upset. It was such a simple task and I failed- I failed to show what I can achieve and-“
Your rambling was stopped as Spock kissed the top of your head, his hands taking your hands into his as he placed a soft kiss on your cheek. “My t’hy’la, there is no need to worry. Even if you did bad you learned from it, did you not?”
You sniffled and tears boiled up in the corners of your eyes. “It’s just- I didn’t want to fail I wanted to be amazing-“
which he quickly stopped with a kiss. Swallowing your tiny whines and he gently pulled away, “ashal-veh you need not to think of it like that. One failed mission doesn’t define you.” He said as he scooped you into his arms and he sat down with you on his lap.
“You are not stupid because you messed up once. You are only human, you need these experiences to learn from and grow from, you just had a..slip up. And this experience has the potential to be what saves you and or others in the future.”
He kissed your cheek and soflty rubbed up and down your back as he allowed you to hide your head in the crook of his neck, his warm hand rubbed gentle circles on your back which filled you with warmth and comfort. The warmth of his touch slowly grounded you and he let you relax against him. Not daring to move for as long as you were comfortable.
You sighed softly and leaned deeper into him, “your right..my head hurts now..” you said with a slight groan and he immediately kissed your temple and laid you down onto your bed, “do you wish for me to stay?” You nodded slowly and he got in bed right beside you, stiffly that is.
He laid there for a moment and he pulled you close, your head resting on his chest as his arms wrapped around your body in a big warm and comforting hug. You sighed with relief and he pressed a soft kiss on your lips.

As the sound of your laugh met Spock's ears, he felt his pulse quicken as his eyes darted around. Spotting you in a nearby lounge room, his lip quirked as he spotted a bright smile on your face.
But as his eyes moved to the person your smile was directed at, Spock felt his stomach twist. Samuel Kirk was sitting beside you, showing you something on his personal PAD.
Spock wasn't sure why he suddenly felt, what he could only describe as, angry, as he saw the two of you so close, laughing and smiling together. He and Sam were not particularly close, but why should he make Spock feel like this? How did his mood shift so quickly?
As he looked between the two of you, a thought crossed his mind. Were you two dating? Spock was almost startled at how this thought made him feel. If you were happy, he should be happy. So why wasn't he?
"Spock?"
Spock's eyes met the curious gaze of Commander Riley's. "Commander." He greeted, trying his best to not look back over at you.
"You okay Spock? You look pretty angry."
Spock rose a brow as he tried to collect himself "I am not."
She was clearly unconvinced but just smiled softly "Alright, if you say so."
"I did say so. Excuse me, I am late for a meeting with the Captain." Spock said curtly before he continued down the hall.
Una watched after him before looking into the nearby room. Her eyes quickly found you and Sam as you sat together. Una smiled softly, understanding much quicker than Spock, what was going on in his own mind.
--- --- ---
As Spock walked swiftly down the hall and towards your station, he ignored the impatient feeling in his chest. Ever since he saw you and Sam earlier, he had been wanting to know more about what was going on between you.
He attempted to convince himself that it was solely to make sure you two could remain profession if you were in a relationship. But even he was not so oblivious to his own feelings to know that was a lie. He just wanted to know if you were together. He wanted to know if you were happy. No matter how much the thought of you and Sam together seemed to irk him.
Entering into the room, his eyes scanned around for you. He felt an ache of disappointment when he saw you were not at your station.
"Ensign." He called out to the one in your place. "Where is Lieutenant L/n?"
"Oh, they're with Lieutenant Kirk working on a project."
"A project? Which project?"
The ensign shrugged "I don't know Sir, but they should be just down the hall."
Spock nodded his head as he began to make his way to where he would hopefully find you. Were you skipping out on your shifts just to spend time with Kirk? He took in a deep breath as his chest tightened at the thought.
Hearing your voice in a nearby room, he stepped in spotting you immediately. You were leaning over Kirk's PAD, showing him something.
Spock took in a deep breath "Y/n."
You looked in up surprise as you heard your name. Spock rarely called you by your first name, especially when on duty. You felt your ears burn a bit "Yes?"
"Captain Pike wants you in the mission debriefing."
Looking at the time you mumbled under your breath as you turned to Sam. "You got it from here?"
He smiled at you "Yeah thanks. I'll show you later."
You smiled at him as you began to follow Spock out of the room. Your eyes scanned Spock's face, and you could tell something was off. His face was usually blank, but calm. Now, he had wrinkles in his forehead, and his jaw was clenched tight.
"Is something wrong Spock?"
He looked over at you briefly "No."
You looked forward, feeling a pang in your chest. Something was definitely wrong, but he clearly did not want to discuss it with you
Spock silently chastised himself for his tone as he replied to you. He was not surprised that you could tell something was wrong with him. You could always tell what he was feeling, even when he did not, like now.
After a few moments of silence, Spock could no longer hold in his curiosity. Speaking, in a tone he thought was casual, he glanced over at you "What project are you and Lieutenant Kirk working on?"
Spock's tone was abnormally monotone. "Uhm, I was just helping him figure out what to do for the anniversary."
You saw Spock hesitate in his step for a moment. He looked over at you, clearly stunned "Anniversary? I was unaware you two had been together long enough to have one."
Now it was you who hesitated, well, more like stumbled. "What?" You let out a surprised laugh "No, not mine and Sam's anniversary, his and his wife's anniversary...did you not know he was married?"
Spock now stopped fully as he looked down at you. "No, I did not."
"And you thought he and I were....dating?"
Spock stared at you for a moment "Well, I had seen the two of you recently. And you seemed close, so I assumed."
"Well you assumed wrong." You chuckled as you continued to walk "I was just helping him set up a surprise for her."
Spock watched you closely, feeling a warmth spreading in his chest, and an almost overwhelming feeling of relief. As he felt a smile begin to form on his face, he quickly pushed it down.
"That is very kind of you. I am sorry for making such an assumption without more information."
It was almost impossible not to notice that Spock's voice had lightened considerably, and his face was no longer clenched in distress.
You couldn't help but consider it had something to do with him assuming you and Sam were a couple. You looked over at him and spoke softly "It is a bit unlike you."
"Yes. I agree."
Looking up, Spock noticed you were growing close to the debriefing room. Stopping again, he looked down at you. Before he could speak, he heard both your names called by Pike, who had just arrived as well.
As you were ushered inside, Spock was forced to keep his thought for later. And forced to deal with the impatience that would come with it.
Walking out of the room, and saying goodbye to Uhura and Nhan, you were left with the odd feeling that had settled in your chest.
During the entire mission debriefing, you were aware of Spock's almost constant gaze. Every time you looked over at him, he was looking at you. The only times he was not, was when the Captain asked him a question, but even then, sometimes his eyes would flick back over to you, if only for a second.
This unsettled you, but not in a discomforting way. It made you feel shy, and almost hopeful. The way his mood had shifted from before assuming you and Sam were a couple, to after when he learned this was not true. Something changed, something you had been waiting for. For him to look at you, to see you.
"Y/n."
You felt your heart leap in your chest as Spock's voice came from behind you.
Stopping, and turning, you felt your face and ears burn a bit hotter. "Sir." You greeted, your voice small.
"I was hoping you might be free to have dinner with me tonight."
Your breath seemed to vanish as you stared up at him. "Uh, dinner? Yeah- yes, I'm free."
Spock nodded, and the ghost of a smile sat on his face. "Good. At seven in my quarters then?"
You nodded, clearly bewildered, and even more so when he bowed slightly and let without another word. You watched him disappear before letting out a soft breath "What just happened?"
--- --- ---
Sitting down across from Spock, your heart was beating heavily, your breaths almost forced to stay even. You looked around Spock's quarters, as he set a drink down in front of you.
"Thank you." You said politely as you looked down at the food in front of you.
You felt your ears burning as you realized it was one of your favorite meals. How did he know?
Spock, as if reading your mind, spoke smoothly "I inquired from Captain Pike if the two of you had discussed food, since both of you enjoy cooking. He informed me that this was one of your favorites."
You nodded lightly with a smile "It is, thank you. That's very considerate of you."
As he nodded his head lightly, you thought you saw a small smile, but it passed quickly. As you began to eat, Spock seemed to be lost in thought, so you gently cleared your throat "I have to admit, I was a bit surprised that you asked me to have dinner with you, let alone in your quarters."
Spock shrugged his head "Yes, I know it is very unusual of me to have asked. And the setting I am sure, seems quite personal. But there was a reason behind it."
You smiled "Yes, I assumed so. I hope there's noting wrong?"
"No, there is nothing wrong. Not in the sense, that I am seeking your help for anything."
You nodded softly as you took a bite of food. "I see."
"I thought the topic of conversation I wished to bring up, would be too personal to have in the mess hall."
Your felt your chest tighten "Oh, okay." You nodded, clearly perplexed.
"I lied to you, earlier today in the hall after I found you with Lieutenant Kirk, when you asked if something was wrong." You rose your brow and he continued. "Again, there is nothing wrong in the sense that I a requesting your help, though it does have something to do with you."
"With me?"
He nodded lightly "I was....effected by the thought I had, that you and Samuel Kirk were a couple. At first I thought maybe what I was feeling was due to mine and Kirk's past conflicts. But, once I learned that the two of you were not in a relationship, I felt...relieved, and even glad. It was then that I understood what I was feeling."
As he paused, his eyes locked onto yours and you were sure you stopped breathing.
"Jealousy."
You blinked as you felt your face and ears burn hotter. You swallowed and took in a sharp breath. "You were jealous?"He nodded once, and you nodded your head as well "Okay. Uhm, in what sense?" You asked curiously as you nervously played with your napkin.
Was he jealous that he thought you were in a relationship and he was not. Or was he jealous that he thought you were in a relationship with someone else?
Spock thought for a moment before realizing you were trying to find out for sure what he was jealous about. "I was jealous in the sense that I thought Samuel Kirk was with you, and I was not."
Your mouth fell agape as you processed what he said. "Oh." You muttered softly.
"This makes you uncomfortable?"
You shook your head "No, no it doesn't, it just surprises me that's all."
He frowned a bit "In a...pleasant way?" He asked cautiously.
Realizing he must be struggling to figure out your feelings as you struggled to find your thoughts, you let out a bewildered chuckle.
"Oh, yes, yes it's a good surprise. I mean, I just, never thought you would ever be interested, or even think of me in that way at all."
"I am sorry I never made it more obvious. I must confess, I was unsure if what I was feeling was romantic affection for you, or platonic, as I do consider you a friend. But after the jealousy I felt today, I understand now which it was. And I hope I can assume, since it is a pleasant surprise for you, that you feel the same?"
You were both surprised and amused in the almost shy edge to his voice as he spoke. The way his eyes were a bit wider as he talked, clearly in new territory, and almost nervous.
You smiled at him and nodded "Yes, I do."
"Then, would it be alright, for me to ask if I could court you?"
Your eyebrows shot up a bit "Court me? As in for marriage?"
"That is a common connection. But in this case, I would take notes from a more human stand-point, that I believe you would call 'dating'."
You let out an almost relieved sigh "So, you are asking if you want to date me, like, be my boyfriend? Or whatever the Vulcan equivalent is of that?"
You saw Spock's lips curl into a small smile "Yes, if you would have me, that is."
Feeling a chill run through your body, you smiled, almost shyly. "Yes, Spock, I would have you."
His smile widened a bit as he reached across the table and placed his hand on top of yours. "I am glad. I very much desire to explore these feelings with you Y/n."
You felt your chest grow warmth as he smiled at you, something you did not often see. Looking down at your hands, you turned yours over, so your palms met.
Locking your eyes with him again, you grinned "As am I."
xx End xx
Hope you enjoyed! I struggled a bit with it lol

Captain’s Log: The mass insanity we have tracked across this section of the galaxy seems to have already touched the planet Deneva. That planet, colonized over a century ago, is one of the most beautiful in the galaxy.
“Planet development is normal, Captain,” reported Spock. “Originally colonized as a freighting line base in this area.”
“Aye, they make regular trips from here carrying supplies to the asteroid belt for the miners and bringing cargo out,” said Scotty. “I’ve made the run a couple of times myself as an engineering advisor.”
“No Federation contacts for over a year,” said Spock.
“Captain, we’ve made contact with your private transmitter, sir,” said (Y/N). They bit their lip in worry.
“Put it on audio,” said Kirk.
“Please hurry! Help us!” cried the voice of a desperate woman over the comms. “I don’t have much time! They’ll know! Please! Please, help us!”
(Y/N) sucked in a breath at the woman’s cries.
“Aurelan! This is Jim on the Enterprise,” said Kirk. “Repeat your message.”
Nothing.
“Contact broken, sir,” said (Y/N) worriedly.
“Reestablish,” ordered Kirk in concern.
(Y/N) tried to use the controls, and Uhura joined them, but to no avail. “I’m sorry, sir, it’s gone.”
“I’m not interested in your excuses, Lieutenant. Reestablish contact with that transmitter,” said Kirk sharply.
“Captain, I understand you’re worried—” indeed, his concern was swirling around him like a storm “—but I’m afraid that’s impossible right now. They stopped broadcasting and aren’t acknowledging our signal.”
Kirk stood straight. “Keep trying to raise them.”
“Of course, sir,” said (Y/N).
“Jim, do you know who that was?” asked Bones.
“Yes,” replied Kirk. “You were right a while back. My brother Sam lives on Deneva. He’s a research biologist. That woman…It sounded like his wife, Aurelan.”
No wonder Kirk’s so upset, his family is down there, thought (Y/N). I hope we’re able to help the people of Deneva.
l
“Lieutenant (L/N)? Mr. Spock?” asked Kirk as they entered the transporter room. “Status report?”
“Lieutenant Uhura is still monitoring all channels, but so far no further response,” said (Y/N).
“Sensors report the expected the number of humans on the planet surface; however, they are strangely quiet,” said Spock. “Very little activity.”
Kirk furrowed his brow and turned to the other members of his landing party. “I’ll want a complete transcript of everything that happens down there, Yeoman.”
“Yes, sir,” responded the officer.
“Let’s go.” Kirk led the way onto the transporter. Together with Spock, Bones, (Y/N), Yeoman Zahra, Scotty, and a security officer, he beamed down.
The group materialized on Deneva. The sun shone above them, and a soft breeze blew. It was a perfect paradise for all intents and purposes. But something was wrong. There was no one around, not a single human or even humanoid.
“There are almost a million inhabitants of Deneva. There’s more than 100,000 in this city alone,” said Kirk as they walked. “Where is everyone?”
“They are here, Captain, in the buildings,” reported Spock, reading from the tricorder.
“It feels oddly quiet,” murmured (Y/N).
“My brother’s lab is over there,” said Kirk, pointing and leading them forward.
“Captain, several people approaching,” said Spock.
“Get away! Get away!” shouted several men, running at them. “We don’t want to hurt you! Go back! Beat it! Go back! Get of out here, please!”
(Y/N) recoiled from the strange combination of aggression and fear coming from them. Oh, and the fact that they were running at them with weapons was foreboding too.
“Stand by to fire,” said Kirk as the men approached. “Fire!” The Enterprise officers fired, and the men crumbled to the ground. Hesitantly, the group approached to examine their stunned bodies. “Did you hear what they said?” murmured Kirk.
“Indeed, they seemed most concerned for our safety,” said Spock.
“But they tried to brain us with these clubs,” said Kirk.
“I felt aggression and fear around them, which means both what they said and they did was somehow true and real,” said (Y/N). “But one mind cannot be so paradoxically conflicted.” They glanced at Bones. “Are they any diseases that could fracture their mind?”
“A plethora of psychological ones, but those don’t infect a large group like this one,” said Bones. “The only thing my recorder is picking up is that their nervous systems are unconscious like this. While stunned, they should just be doing routine autonomic activity, right? But I’m getting a very high reading, as though even in their unconscious state, they’re being violently stimulated.”
What? thought (Y/N). Is something inside them, controlling them?
A woman’s scream echoed through the air, and the group looked up in search of the source.
“Fan out and follow me!” ordered Kirk, drawing his phaser and running off in the direction of the cry. It was coming from his brother’s lab building, and he ripped open the door to race in.
Inside, the body of a man and a young boy lay on the ground, and a young woman was screaming, “They’re here! They’re here! Help me!”
“Aurelan, it’s Jim!” Kirk held her tightly, trying to calm her down.
(Y/N) reached out, touched Aurelan’s shoulder gently, and drew her panic from her. Aurelan went limp in Kirk’s arms as the adrenaline rushed from her, exhausting her body. Kirk set her down in a nearby chair.
“You’re safe now,” said Kirk.
“Is this your brother, Jim?” asked Bones hesitantly, examining the bodies.
Kirk looked up sharply. Slowly, he knelt by his brother’s body while Bones examined the child. Sadness clouded around Kirk as he realized his brother was dead.
“Oh, Sam…” he murmured. “It is my brother. Was…my brother.”
“I’m sorry, Captain,” said (Y/N), eyes softening.
“The boy is alive,” said Bones. “Thank god.”
Kirk looked at the boy. “Peter?”
The boy furrowed his brow and briefly opened his eyes, but he was weak and quickly closed his eyes again. (Y/N) was thankful he was not dealing with the extreme panic of his mother, but they were worried about his health nonetheless. Physical and mental torment were equally unpleasant.
“I better get the boy and the mother back to the ship, Jim,” said Bones. “I can’t do much for them down here.”
Kirk nodded. “Get ready to beam up.”
Spock entered the room, his check of the labs complete. He saw Kirk and glanced at (Y/N), who nodded to the body of Sam sadly. Spock understood what had happened instantly. “Captain, I understand how you—”
“Yes. Yes, Mr. Spock,” said Kirk, sighing. He cleared his throat and tried to focus on the issues at hand. “You heard my sister-in-law say something about ‘they’ being here. Your guess?”
“Notice the ventilator, Captain,” said Spock.
(Y/N) looked up and saw the vent was broken and a metal plate pushed over the opening, like it was trying to be blocked off.
“Apparently, they were trying to keep something outside from getting in,” said Spock.
“I think it got in,” murmured (Y/N) sadly.
“But that doesn’t make sense. There were no life-forms reported,” said Kirk, furrowing his brow. “Our sensors didn’t pick up anything that didn’t belong here.”
“That is correct,” said Spock. “I am at a loss to understand it.”
“Ready to beam up, Captain,” said Bones. “I’d like you to be on board when your sister-in-law regains consciousness. (L/N), you too in case she panics.”
Spock raised an eyebrow. “Taking on strong emotions is trying on Lieutenant (L/N)’s health. Are you sure it is not dangerous to have them there?”
(Y/N) smiled and patted his shoulder. “I can handle a little bit of it, and I want to be there for the boy anyways.”
Spock furrowed his brow but quickly became impassive once more. He wished to argue more, but if (Y/N) was not arguing and as it was the logical use of their abilities since there was no one to communicate with on Deneva, he would let them go, even if Spock was displeased.
“Take charge of the landing party, Mr. Spock,” ordered Kirk. “I want some answers to all this.”
(Y/N) smiled comfortingly at Spock before standing by Kirk, Bones, and the two patients and getting beamed back up to the Enterprise.
l
(Y/N) sat on a chair in between Aurelan and Peter, waiting for them to awake and watching for any hysteria they needed to handle. Confusion appeared in wisps as Aurelan opened her eyes weakly.
“Captain, she’s awake,” called (Y/N).
“Aurelan,” said Kirk, his voice soft and gentle in case his sister-in-law was scared. “Aurelan, it’s Jim.”
“Jim?” asked Aurelan, struggling to focus on his voice. “Sam, he’s—He’s dead!” His breathing quickened, and (Y/N) kept their hand over her forehead in case it grew stronger.
Kirk held her hand tightly to ground her. “But your son is still alive.” Relief washed over Aurelan at the news that Peter was alright. “You’ve got to help us,” said Kirk.
Aurelan narrowed her eyes as if finally realizing what was going on. “You are here. It is you, Jim.”
Kirk and (Y/N) exchanged worried glances at her confusion. “Yes, I’m here,” repeated Kirk. “Aurelan, you have to tell us what happened to you and the others.”
“Who?” pressed Kirk. (Y/N) wanted to help him ask but kept quiet to let him soothe Aurelan with a familiar face.
“Things!” Aurelan’s voice and face betrayed the fear in her as much as the fog of it around her did. “Horrible things! Visitors brought them in their vessel from a planet, Ingraham B!”
“What kind of things?” asked Kirk.
“Not the ship’s crew’s fault,” murmured Aurelan. “The things made them bring their ship here.”
So these things can control people. That explains the incident earlier, thought (Y/N).
“Aurelan, it’s important that you tell us what kind of things,” said Kirk.
“Not their fault,” repeated Aurelan, squeezing her eyes shut and pain flickered through her like shocks of electricity.
She cried out in agony. (Y/N) wrenched backwards as the pain flared up and touched their skin. The health display on the wall began beeping wildly. Bones brought in a hypo and pressed it into Aurelan in order to calm her body once again.
“It’s as if she’s fighting to get answers out,” observed (Y/N), rubbing their hand where the pain and fear at stung them. “It’s like something’s hurting her when she tries to tell us the truth.”
“They use it to control us,” said Aurelan weakly. She let her head fall to the side to look at Kirk. “They’re spreading, Jim. They need us to be their arms and legs. They’re forcing us to build ships for them.” (Y/N) had to stand as the pain built up again and Aurelan fought against it. “Don’t let them! Don’t let them go any further!”
She screamed in complete agony. At the peak of her cry, she froze, and the sound cut off. Her eyes widened for a moment before she collapsed back into the bed, and the monitor flatline.
Aurelan was dead.
Kirk stood and looked over at a still-unconscious Peter. He met Bones’s gaze and hesitated before saying, “My brother’s son. Save him.”
Bones looked back at Kirk. Uncharacteristically soft, he nodded and said, “I’ll do everything I can, Jim, to save him.”
Kirk nodded. “(L/N), we need to return to Deneva to continue investigating. Do you think you’ll be able to sense when someone is infected by these…things?”
(Y/N) considered for a moment, frowning. “I think so. The aggression in the men who attacked us was likely from the entities controlling them.”
“Then let’s beam down. We need to keep these things from spreading.”
“Yes, sir.”
l
“Report,” asked Kirk as soon as they had met up with the landing party again.
Spock paused for a moment to glance at (Y/N) to gage their energy levels. Satisfied that they were alright, he said, “The streets are extraordinarily quiet, Captain. We’ve seen no other Denevans. And the ones we stunned earlier were gone when we came out.”
“Have you seen any kind of creature or alien form?” questioned (Y/N).
“None,” said Scotty. “Just that noise we heard.”
“A peculiar buzzing sound,” described Spock. “We were about to investigate it.”
“Alright,” said Kirk musingly. “Let’s go find out what it is. Set your phasers to Force 3, to kill.” Kirk was taking no chances. “We’re looking for some kind of creature, and we already know it will kill.”
The group walked into a greenhouse building and began creeping through the halls. No one appeared around them, but no “thing” did either. However, the low buzzing was growing louder as they went. Whatever was creating it was close by. As it changed to a sucking sound, (Y/N) cringed and looked around for the source but saw nothing.
Kirk motioned for the security officer to stay up on the small dais while the rest of the group crept towards the open green room. After a few more steps forward, he stopped. “There!”
Kirk pointed at the low ceiling of a doorway where several slimy creatures were attached to the top. One creature fell and flew towards them. The officers ducked and watched as it chittered and circled them.
“Form a ring!” ordered Kirk.
The creature swooped down at them, but they dodged away and watched in, completely alert.
“Fire!”
(Y/N) fired with their colleagues, and one thing fell to the ground (hopefully dead). However, several more detached from the walls of the inner rooms of the building and began gliding around and out the doors. Keeping their phaser up, they covered Kirk and Spock as they examined the creature.
“Incredible,” said Spock as he looked at his tricorder. “Not only should it have been destroyed by our phasers, it does not even register on my tricorder.”
“That explains why the life form readings seemed normal,” said (Y/N).
“Captain,” said Zahra fearfully. “It doesn’t even look real.”
“It is not life as we know or understand it,” said Spock.
“And yet here it is,” murmured (Y/N), gazing at it.
“And it can bear up under full phaser power,” said Kirk in frustration.
“Captain, I suggest we risk taking it aboard,” said Spock.
Kirk shook his head glanced around. “It’s too closed in here. It may be a trap. Let’s move out.”
As they turned their backs and began walking, the creature they presumed dead jumped up and flew towards them. (Y/N) sensed the sudden aggression and turned in time to see it land on Spock’s back.
“Spock!” cried (Y/N) in worry, catching him as he stumbled to the ground. As they held him, Kirk grabbed the creature and tried to pull it from his back. He ripped it off, and Spock weakly remained in (Y/N)’s arms, gasping in pain. (Y/N) held him up as Kirk contacted the Enterprise. Oh, Spock…Please be alright.
He waited in a corner of the tent with his and Spock’s luggage. They did not have many belongings. And probability suggested that they would not need their possessions where they were going. But the elders had advised them to carry certain essentials with them, in the event that they might be shown a degree of mercy.
All around him, families and kin sat huddled close to each other. Bonded couples openly held hands; all sense of propriety abandoned. The invalid and infirm held pills of belkai in their palms, debating whether to take the option of euthanasia or to join their people in whatever was in store for them.
A small unit of the planet’s financial services worked busily in the corner, organizing the real estate and monetary affairs of the wealthier citizens. Wills were being written and notarized hastily and credits were being transferred to off-world accounts. It was unclear who this meager wealth would go to. The majority of it would presumably be used to maintain their lone embassy on Earth. The remainder would perhaps be claimed by rightful heirs many years later, that is, if any of them survived.
In the distance, Sarek watched his son as he supervised the final flight checks for the first ship. In his gaze, was a lifetime of regret and heartbreak. For 28 long years, he had held his son at arm’s length-- ashamed of his human emotionalism, his quick temper, and his ability to cut through the many hypocrisies of Vulcan society.
None of it mattered anymore.
These few hours were all they had left.
Sarek longed to go to Spock and apologize to him, to hold him and tell him how deeply he loved him.

One word request: Spock - Comfort
A/N: I’m back!!! I’m so sorry this took so long, I had no inspiration and a ton of work to do. I’ll be extremely busy these upcoming two weeks, so I’ll see what I can finish and what not. Again, I’m so sorry this took so long, and also it’s not proof read. I feel like I need to put at least something out there. As always, enjoy reading!! :)
TRIGGER WARNING: mentions of death. please do not read this if this subject triggers you!
Your eyes snap open. You’re quick to notice fresh tears on your cheeks. Frustratedly, you drag your fingers across your cheeks to get them away. As you sit up, you rest your head against the wall and close your eyes.
It’s been like this for over two weeks and you hate it. You just want a good night’s sleep. Even if it’s just for one night. The nightmares started two weeks ago, when Enterprise received a distress call from another Starfleet vessel. The ship was in trouble and since Enterprise was closest by, Captain Kirk put the original mission on stop and set course for the Starfleet vessel.
When you reached the coordinates, it was too late. The ship was completely destroyed. At first, you were just shocked someone or something had destroyed a Starfleet vessel. But then you saw the bodies floating through space. Your breathing stopped at once when one of them got close enough for you to see. It was one of your childhood best friends.
You had known him for over ten years. You were high school best friends, and after you graduated, you both applied for Starfleet Academy and got it. You were assigned to different ships but you still made sure to call each other at least once a week.
But it looks like he wouldn’t be calling you this week. A heartbreaking whimper left your lips. All you wanted to do was to head to your quarters and just cry but you knew you had to be at your station. The hours after discovering you had lost your best friend were crushing and extremely hard, but you knew you couldn’t just abandon your duties. After all, you figured you weren’t the only one who knew someone of the other ship’s crew.
Ever since that day you’ve been having nightmares, barely getting any sleep. At first, you tried to put it out of your head, but that wasn’t nearly as easy as it sounds. You even went to Bones to ask if he could help and he gave you something to help you sleep, but so far it didn’t work.
You decide to get up, even though it’s in the middle of the night. Looks like you’re going to need a lot of coffee to get through the day. You put on a sweater and your boots and open the door of your quarters.
You mindlessly wander through the corridors, occasionally running into someone who was working the night shift. You simply nodded at them and continued to walk. When you walk past the doors to the mess hall, you figured you could get a snack or something to drink.
When you enter the mess hall you notice someone else sitting there. You don’t really pay attention to the crew member, given that it’s probably someone working the night shift. When you get a cup of fresh tea and turn around to go and sit somewhere, you notice it’s not someone who’s usually on the night shift.
Spock is always on his station during the day. You didn’t expect him to be awake during the night. You figured he’d try and get as many sleep as he could get. He’d probably think that’s the most logical thing one can do after a long shift.
You’d lie to yourself if you’d say you didn’t like him being awake. You enjoy spending time with Spock. He’d always be able to take your mind off things.
And so you walk over to the table he’s sitting at and wait for him to see you.
‘Y/N, I didn’t know you were on the night shift?’ he says. His eyes go up and down your body, from your sweater to your boots. ‘But judging by your outfit, I’d say you couldn’t sleep?’ he says and you nod.
‘May I join you?’ you say.
‘Of course.’ he says and you sit down across from him.
‘Can I ask why you can’t sleep?’ he asks.
You shrug. ‘It just happens.’ you say.
‘Y/N, why are you being untruthful with me?’ asks Spock and you feel your cheeks heat up.
‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ you say softly.
‘And now you did it again. You have a tell.’ says Spock.
‘I do?’ you say. You didn’t know this.
‘Yes. The corner of your mouth moves a little when you tell a lie.’ says Spock calmly.
You sigh. ‘Okay. I lied. But the truth’s silly. And to be honest, kind of embarrassing.’ you say. Spock looks at you and gestures for you to continue.
‘Ever since the attack, I’ve been having nightmares. I know, I know, it sounds stupid but-’ ‘It does not.’ says Spock, interrupting you. You look at him with slightly raised eyebrows. ‘No?’ you say.
‘Events from the past never leave our memory. It would be stupid to not think of memories. That would mean your memory would be dysfunctional.’ says Spock. You can’t help but to let out a small chuckle. Spock always has an answer ready.
‘It just seems so childish. I’ve always been telling myself a Starfleet officer needs to stay strong. We need to make sure the universe is at peace. I can’t break down over something as small as a nightmare.’ you say. Somehow, you’re avoiding Spock’s eyes. You’re concentrating on the cup you’re holding, when Spock suddenly rests his hand on top of yours. You instantly look up at him. This is not something you’re used to.
‘Fear is not childish. It exists in many forms, nightmares being one of them. They’re not childish.’ says Spock and you smile at him.
‘Thank you, Spock.’ you say.
‘Perhaps there is something I could do to comfort you?’ he says and you feel your cheeks turn red. Not out of embarrassment this time, but because no one other than Spock is offering to comfort you. You smile again.
‘It’s okay. This is already helping. Just talking.’ you say. The two of you are silent for a few moments. The moment is broken by a yawn coming out of your mouth. You could swear you hear Spock laugh softly.
‘You should probably get some sleep.’ he says and he removes his hand from yours. You had almost forgotten it was there in the first place.
‘Yeah, I should.’ you say and you get up. You’re a bit disappointed you have to leave him already, but this was one of the rare moments you’ve had with him, so you smile anyway as you’re on your way to your quarters.
Spock didn’t know, but he helped you. You could have sworn he felt something as well when he laid his hand on top of yours. When you get back to bed, the nightmares don’t come back that night.
A/N: I hope you like it!! My ship and one word requests are currently closed. It ended January 14th. Check my post about it for more information. Here’s my blurb masterlist.

You woke up quickly from an unpleasant dream and rubbed your eyes tiredly. You were a lot warmer than you were when you fell asleep. The time was unclear, seeing as you were in space and didn’t have sunlight to tell it. You needed to check your clock.
As you began to sit up, you felt a weight on your abdomen and you gasped. Spock had came in to your quarters sometime after you fell asleep and joined you in bed. That part wasn’t what shocked you, though. What shocked you was the fact that in his sleep he had instinctively held you. He was never much of a cuddler, and when he did cuddle you it was awkward and forced.
He looked relaxed now, though. Forgetting your mission to check the time, you slowly sunk back below the covers, trying not to wake the sleeping Vulcan beside you.
His mouth was opened slightly and his hair was tousled from rolling on the pillow. The more you thought of it, the more you realized that you had never seen him this relaxed before. His arm was still curled around your abdomen and he gripped at your shirt, pulling you closer.
If you didn't know any better you’d think that he was awake. He never did this when he was awake, though. He had to be asleep.
You brought your hand up to his face, brushing his hair out of the way so you could see him better. His eyebrows furrowed together as he slowly woke.
“Y/n?” He spoke, his voice groggy with sleep.
“I didn’t mean to wake you,” You mumbled, pulling your hand away.
You watched his expression change as he realized the position he was in.
“I apologize,” He said, pulling his hand away from you almost instantly. He rubbed at his eyes tiredly and you had to refrain from gushing out loud. It was a lot colder without him holding you, though.
“Don’t apologize,” You smiled, cupping his face with your hand again, “You warmed me up,”
He let you lean forward and kiss the tip of his nose quickly. The corner of his mouth lifted slightly as he watched you blush. He was always more emotional when he was sleepy.
“Hold me,” You mumbled, burying your face into the crook of his neck. He quickly obliged, both arms finding their way around you. You felt him bury his face into your hair and sigh contently.
You didn’t get emotions from Spock often, but when you did it was pure euphoria.

As you felt yourself waking up, you knew the dream was fading away. Grasping at every memory as it faded, you repeated what you saw. "Mountains, trees, red, voice."
Your eyes opened, as those words repeated through your head. The dreams you had of your soulmates always faded so fast, and as hard as you try you can never remember them in detail. Nothing but his voice. That deep, almost melodic baritone voice.
Turning, you see you woke up twenty minutes before your alarm. Knowing it wasn't worth it to try and go back to sleep, you sat up, hanging your legs over the side of the bed. You tried again to think back on your dream. It was calm, it was always calm, so much less confusing than your dreams often were.
You repeated the words, "Mountains, trees, red, voice." You shook your head with a soft laugh. "Yeah, that helps a lot."
Dream sharing with your soulmate always started once you reached maturity. For the years that you had been having yours, you tried to remember them as best you could. Repeating words to yourself that would maybe help you remember them, but they never made enough sense to help you find out who your soulmate might be.
As much as you hated it, it was well known, that the dreams were not meant to help you find out who your soulmate was and track them down, but just to connect you to them. You would meet when you were meant too.
For everyone who starts to share the dreams of their soulmates, they each have something they can remember from these dreams that would give them that recognizable 'oh' moment when they first meet their soulmate. Usually, they remember the same detail about each other.
For some, it's visual details, like their soulmates eyes, a specific birthmark, or a scar. Or audible, like the sound of their voice, or singing. It ranges for every type of being there is, always giving you some way of knowing them personally, even if you've never met.
For you, your detail, was the sound of your soulmates voice. And every time you heard it, it sent shivers down your spine. It was deep, deeper than most you've heard, which for you, was lucky. It would be easy to recognize. Though, that time had yet to come.
Deciding that no matter how long you tried to think back on the dream, you wouldn't remember it, you stood and made your way to the shower. Taking a moment to look yourself over in the mirror, you let out a deep breath as your nerves began to settle in your stomach. Today was your first day on the USS Enterprise. The first day of a new adventure.
---------
Spock walked briskly down the corridor of the Starbase, his eyes straight ahead. The quick pit-stop at the Starbase to drop off the recent batch of Ensigns, and to pick up some more, as well as some higher ranked new crew-members, was coming to an end. His mind sorted through the tasks he had done, and the few left he had to complete before Enterprise was to set out.
Wading his way through a small crowd of people, Spock paid no mind to them. Suddenly, he picked up momentarily, on a familiar voice. As his steps slowed, it took him a moment to place to voice. He did not hear what was said, but he knew that voice.
Feeling his chest tighten as realization struck him, he quickly turned back, seeing that the small crowd of people had began to break apart. Walking back, he looked down the halls, listening for that voice again. Just one word wold be enough. Even as people walked past, giving him looks of confusion, he remained still, waiting.
When everyone that had been nearby was gone, Spock felt his stomach sink. You were here. You were right here. If he had actually looked at the people that were around him, if he had paid more attention instead of being so lost in his own thoughts, he may have seen you. If only you had spoken just a bit longer.
'Where do I go from here?'
Your voice repeated in his mind. Of all the dreams of yours he has shared, that was one sentence that always stuck in his mind. The only thing you've said, that he was able to remember in specific detail.
He can't remember the context of the dream, or who you were speaking too. Just that your voice was confused, afraid. Maybe that was why he was able to remember it. He woke up feeling as though you needed help. But that was nearly two years ago.
And now, you were here. Close, yet so far. Were you a member of Starfleet, or just a visitor to the Starbase?
"Mr. Spock, how are things coming?"
Spock was broken from his thoughts as he heard Pikes voice. Tapping his comm, he hesitated for a moment. "I only have one more task to complete Captain."
"Make it fast if you can."
"Yes Sir."
Spock continued to stare down the corridor. Would he hear you again before he had to leave the base? Or would he have to leave, knowing the fact that he had walked right past you, and missed the chance to find you? Knowing it could be years before he gets the chance again?
Turning, he began to continue on his way. His chest heavy with emotion he was finding hard to supress.
---------
Feeling a sense of melancholy in your chest after having said goodbye to all your friends around the base, you walked down the large hall of the Starbase.
When you rounded a corner, and spotted Captain Pike, you felt your stomach twist as you took a deep breath. Spotting you, he smiled. You stopped and placed your hands behind his back. "Lieutenant Y/n L/n, reporting for duty Captain."
He smiled and reached out his hand for you to shake. "Pleased to meet you Lieutenant, I've heard great things."
Taking his hand and shaking it you smiled, "I've heard the same about you, Sir."
Gesturing towards the transport room he smiled. "My number one is waiting on board, she'll show you around."
"Thank you Sir."
Nodding, he looked past you and his brow rose. Giving you one last look, he tapped your shoulder in encouragement before walking past. As you made your way towards the transport room, you looked back, seeing him approaching a young Vulcan that looked vaguely familiar.
"Mr. Spock, everything good to go?"
You rose your brow as you made your way through the doors of the transport room. 'So that was Spock huh? He's much more attractive than I expected.'
You had heard of the half-human half-Vulcan at the academy, as well as on the last ship you had been stationed on. Maybe you had seen him around and not realized it was him at the time. You wondered what he was like, and if what you had heard was accurate.
---------
As Spock made his way onto the bridge, his eyes landed on an unfamiliar face standing with Una beside the Captain's chair. A new Ensign? His eyes landed on the badge on your uniform, no, a Lieutenant, one of the newer additions to the crew.
"Alright, let's get a move on." Pike said as he nodded his head to Erica. Looking over at Spock he gestured his hands "Spock, Lieutenant L/n, Lieutenant L/n, Lieutenant Commander Spock."
Yours and Spock's eyes locked and neither of you could ignore the odd recognition that seemed to hit you. Maybe you had met at the academy.
Bowing your head in greeting, Spock returned the gesture before he spun around to face his station. You nodded once at Pike and Una as a goodbye before you turned and made your way to the lift to start your first assignment on board.
As he heard the lift doors closing, Spock's eyes drifted towards them. He was trying to place you in his memories, as he was sure he had met your before. L/n. The name did seem somewhat familiar as well. Perhaps you had attended the academy together.
Looking back at his station, he quickly became distracted by his work, as you disappeared from his mind. Occasionally, unknowing to him, you did pop back into his mind. But he had no idea it was you, he was thinking of.
By the end of the day, when Spock laid down to sleep. He hoped, that he would once again share one of his soulmates dreams.
He had on occasion, tried to complete a form of mind-connection he had heard some Vulcans could succeed in doing with their soulmate through their shared dreams. But this always failed, which he had decided a long time ago, meant that you were most likely not a Vulcan. That, paired with your dreams often being confusing, and fast paced, the opposite of his helped him to determine this.
For a time, he was concerned and even disappointed that you were not a Vulcan. But over time, as he changed, and had begun to accept his more human side, the thought was much less concerning. You were his soulmate after all, it did not matter what or who you were.
Lying in his bed, he stared up at the ceiling, once again thinking about how he had missed you at the Starbase. Closing his eyes, he waited patiently as he began to drift to sleep. Hoping he would once again hear your voice.
--
As Spocks eyes fluttered open as his alarm woke him up. He acknowledged that your dream had been more stressful than normal. Though he was already forgetting what happened, he could feel the anxious energy still pulsing through him.
Sitting up, he tried to think back on what had happened. Occasionally he would recall a small detail, but none that ever made much sense. This time, he had the oddest recollection, that your dream had occurred in space, possible even a Starship. As he closed his eyes, trying to force the dream to come forward in his memory, he felt it slip away instead.
Letting out a deep breath, he began to get ready, aware that the recent incident with hearing his soulmates voice was effecting his ability to suppress his emotions. They pressed heavily in his mind, trying to force their way out.
He attempted to distract himself with thoughts of his duties and the most recent mission the Enterprise would be taking on. As he stood at the back of the lift with a couple crew members, he had begun to succeed in distracting his thoughts.
But when the lift doors opened and the two crew-members filed out, his ears caught on that same, familiar voice in the nearby corridor. As the doors shut, Spock felt a jolt of panic rush through him as he grabbed the handle. "Deck C", his voice came out rushed and loud.
The lift stopped before returning to the floor it had just been on. As the door slid open, Spock quickly stepped out, looking around rapidly. He felt his stomach clench as he once again saw no one around.
Walking down the corridor, he listened, but heard no voices. Turning, he walked the other way and did the same. Still hearing no one. Had he just imagined it? Had his thoughts of you come forward so suddenly he thought they were real?
Or perhaps it was just someone that sounded similar? Taking a moment to acknowledge the possibility that you were on the Enterprise, he felt his heart fluttering in an unfamiliar manner.
There were plenty of crew-members he had never met in person, never even spoken too. Could you have been here for a long time and he never knew? There were also multiple new crew-members and ensigns, could you be one of them? Or, had he just been mistaken?
Spock remained in the corridor for much longer than he meant too, longer then he should. But he could not get over the fact that you might be here, on the ship.
-----------
Standing in the lift, you felt a bit nervous as you made your way to the bridge. You had only been on the Enterprise for a few days now, but were beginning to acclimate nicely.
You had just finished your first research assignment aboard the Enterprise, and was told to take it directly to Mr Spock, as he was overseeing the primary research mission.
This would be the first time you would ever actually interact with him, and you couldn't help but feel nervous. What if he found numerous errors in your report, or did not like the way you completed your research? What if you missed something obvious?
As the lift door slid open, you took a deep breath and stepped onto the bridge. Looking over towards Spock's station, you felt an odd mix of relief and disappointment when you saw he was not there.
"Y/n, need something?"
Turning to the voice of the Captain, you stood a little straighter. "My apologies Captain. I came to give my report to Spock, I did not realize he was no longer here."
"Oh, you just missed him." Una said as she stood and walked over to you. "I'll take it."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course." She smiled politely. "I've been hearing quite a lot about this research project and I wanna see how it's going."
"Always curious to know everything, huh?" The Captain commented with a smile, to which Una replied with a silent raised brow in his direction.
Giving it to her, you smiled again "I appreciate it Commander."
"How are you liking it on the Enterprise so far Y/n?" The Captain asked.
"Very well Captain, thank you. It's better than some said it would be."
He smiled "Good, I'm glad."
As he turned back towards the front of the bridge, you gave one last look of appreciation to Una, and made your way back to the lift. You weren't sure what you felt more of, relief that you would not directly see Spock's reaction to your report, or disappointment of having not spoken to him.
'I wonder what his voice sounds like?' You thought to yourself, realizing you did not recall ever hearing him speak.
A quick thought of him being your soulmate passed through your mind, causing your ears to burn a bit.
'That's ridiculous.' You thought, though you could not get rid of the thought easily.
---
Upon walking back into the bridge, Spock stopped as Una approached him, handing him a padd "You missed Lieutenant L/n."
Taking the padd, he looked down to see the report for the research you had been assigned.
"It's good." Una commented before she turned and returned to her station.
Sitting down, Spock read quickly over the data you had gathered. Raising one brow as he read, he was impressed at how much attention to detail you took, especially having finished the report so quickly.
The tone and language of your report seemed familiar to him, adding to his idea that the two of you must have met before. He was often able to place people in his memory easily, so why was it so hard to place you?
As he read over your report one more time, he found himself reading the words with the voice of his soulmate. Upon realizing this, he felt his heart begin to race a bit faster. He had never done that before. So why was he now?
-----------
As Spock stood beside the Captain in the lift, he stared straight ahead, unaware that the Captain had been speaking to him.
"Spock!" The Captain said a bit louder, causing Spock to suddenly look over at him with a look of surprise.
Pike let out a soft laugh "Whats got you so distracted?"
Spock remained silent for a moment, as he considered telling Pike what had happened in the last week.
"I must admit Captain, that, something has happened recently that has caused my mind to become distracted."
"Yeah, no kidding." Pike chuckled. "So, what is it?"
"Do you recall that I told you, the detail of my soulmate's dreams that I remember is the sound of their voice?"
"Yes, I do."
"When we were on the Starbase, I heard the voice of my Soulmate, but did not see them. And I was unable to locate them."
Pike stared at Spock in mild shock. "Oh."
"That is not all."
Pike motioned his head for Spock to continue, clearly intrigued to hear more.
"Two days ago, as I was on the lift, when the doors opened, I heard their voice coming from Deck C. But by the time I made it into the corridor, there was no one there."
Pikes look of surprise grew as he smiled. "Your soulmate is on the Enterprise?"
"I believe so."
"Believe?"
"It is possible it was only someone who sounded familiar. Or, because the fact that I heard them on the Starbase has been heavy on my mind, it caused me to momentarily hallucinate the sound of their voice."
Pike stared at Spock with a bit of a dumbfounded expression. And as the lift doors opened, Pikes attention was taken away from Spock, and instead to the view outside the ship. "What the-" Looking back at Spock he lightly smacked his shoulder. "We'll talk about this later."
Spock's eyes followed the Captains gaze, seeing the reason he and the Captain had been called to the bridge in the first place. The Enterprise had been trapped in an unusual distortion field.
Shoving the thoughts of you to the back of his mind, Spock made his way to his station.
----------
Rushing towards the lift breathlessly you let out a deep sigh as you made your way up to the bridge.
While attempting to escape the distortion field, communications through the entire ship were effected, and no one could be contacted except through word of mouth. So, somehow, you ended up playing messenger.
As you exited the lift, still a bit breathless, you paused briefly as all eyes turned to land on you. You met Spock's briefly before you approached the Captains chair.
"Please tell me Hemmer's got something?"
You let out a breath and nodded your head. "Yes Sir, he has access to all of the ships controls, and believes that once we reset the system, communications will come back online."
As you began to speak, Spock felt his whole body freeze, as his breath hitched in his throat. He stared at you intensely, listening to your voice, knowing there was no mistaking it now. Now that undeniable feeling of knowing you made sense. He did know you, just not in the way he expected.
"Uhm, Spock, are you, okay?"
As Una spoke, your eyes moved to Spock, and you felt a sudden jolt of surprise as you saw him staring at you with an intense gaze.
Pike looked over at him as well, and as Spock's eyes met his briefly, and Pike noted a momentary panic in Spock's eyes, it clicked for him. Looking at you, as you were clearly confused and a bit alarmed, Pike repressed a grin.
Pike cleared his throat. "Spock, do me a favor and go down to Engineering with Hemmer and make sure everything goes to plan." Looking over at you he smiled. "Go with him."
You opened your mouth to question him, but instead nodded. "Yes Sir."
Turning to head to the lift you watched Spock stand up stiffly, his eyes still on you. Your heart was beating rapidly in your chest as you felt anxiety seep in. What was gong on?
As you entered the lift, Spock entered right behind you, before standing right next to you, your arms almost touching. You could tell his breathing was uneven, and you began to worry something was wrong with him.
When the lift doors shut, Una looked over at Pike with a look of confusion. Pike smiled at her. "I'll tell you later."
After a moment you realized Spock was not reaching for the lift handle to take you to Engineering. Guessing he must have been waiting for you to do it, you began to reach out, but stopped when Spock's hand shot out and grabbed it.
You stopped your own movement, and looked at his profile. You felt your breath hitch in your throat as he looked over at you, his gaze still intense.
"Uhm, is there a problem with Hemmers plan Sir? It seemed to take you by surprise. If you think there is a better way I believe he would be open to suggestions."
Spock stared at you in silent observation as you spoke. Hearing your voice, seeing you speak, not in a dream, but instead, right in front of him. He was surprised and a bit unsettled at how much it was effecting him.
You felt the tension in the lift build as Spock did not respond to you. You began to grow even more worried for him.
"Are you feeling alright-"
"I believe we should talk."
As you heard him speak at the same time as you, you felt your breath catch in your throat. Your mind immedietely seemed to short-circuit. 'That was- His voice was- Was that why he was staring so intensely at me? Because he knew my voice too?'
As Spock saw the realization cross your face, he felt a bit subdued as he watched you. The tension was still obvious, but it felt different now.
You felt stunned, but recalled what it was you had originally been doing. "I- uhm, I should let Hemmer know that the he reset the system." You voice was soft, subdued, and your eyes never left Spock's.
Spock nodded softly. "Yes, that is a good idea. Engineering."
As the lift began to move, you felt unsure of what to say, or do. Looking back at Spock you swallowed nervously. "After I do, what- should we-?"
Spock looked at you softly, understanding that you were now as thrown off about this situation as he was. "Once you advise Hemmer that he can reset the systems, we could go to my quarters to speak in private."
'God, how did his voice sound so much deeper and soothing in person?'
You nodded your head. "Alright."
-------
As you stepped into Spock's quarters, you were surprised at how it looked. You wren't sure what you had been expecting, but it wasn't this.
"Would you like a drink?"
You spun around to meet his gaze and shook your head. "No, I am alright, thank you."
You stood in silence for a moment, before Spock stepped closer. "I must admit, though I am sure it was obvious, I was quite surprised when I heard your voice. I apologize for how I reacted, it was..unlike me."
You shook your head a bit. "It's alright, I understand, I was just as shocked when you spoke in the lift."
"I think I should tell you, that heard your voice on the Starbase, the day you transferred to the Enterprise. I did not see who you were, and was, disappointed, that I could not find you. As well as that, a few days ago, I heard your voice on Deck C, but again, was too late to see you. I was beginning to think my mind may have been playing tricks on me."
You were a bit surprised by this, and let out a soft laugh, Spock rose one brow in perplexity.
"I'm sorry, I just. That reminded me of something my mother once told me. That sometimes fate likes to tease you a bit before allowing you happiness."
Spock tilted his head a bit in thought. "That is quite fitting for this situation."
You smiled at him, and Spock felt his heart flutter a bit at the sight.
You spoke softly, "Can I ask you something?"
He nodded his head "Of course."
"When you first saw me, did you recognize me? Or did you have a moment where you swore you knew me from somewhere?"
Spock rose his brow and nodded. "Yes, I did."
You nodded with a smile. "So did I. I thought maybe we met at the academy, but, I don't think that was it."
"We may not be able to remember our shared dreams, but somewhere in our subconscious we do. It most likely triggered the familiarity, when we first saw each other."
"That makes sense." You nodded as you turned, looking around his room a bit more. "I always tried to remember parts of your dreams. But the main thing, was that they were always calm, subdued." You looked back at him, and saw a hint of a smile. "I suppose it makes sense now, why they are like that."
"And it makes sense as to why your dreams are much more...active than mine. I assumed years ago that you were not Vulcan based on the confusion and often delirium your dreams would leave me in once I woke."
You let out a soft laugh. "Yeah, I always have rather fast paced dreams. Especially if I am stressed. But that made yours much easier to appreciate. And, I've always found your voice quite soothing."
If Spock blushed, he would have in this moment. "I have always thought the same of yours as well."
Thinking back a moment, you asked cautiously. "Are you...disappointed that I am not a Vulcan?"
"I must admit, that the thought did trouble me at first, as I have often struggled with my human and Vulcan sides. But I can now, confidently, and truthfully say, that I am most certainly not disappointed."
You felt your neck and ears burning, as your heart palpitated.
He added on, almost carefully "What about you? I assume I am not what you expected."
"I think you might be more than I expected actually. And I do mean that as a compliment."
Another hint of a smile could be seen on his face, and you felt an odd sense of pride because of it.
Spock's eyes glanced at the clock in his room, and he cleared his throat lightly. "Perhaps you would like to accompany me to get some dinner? Then we can talk more about, our future."
'Our future'.
