Could not any mean not all in English?
Somebody wrote « not any demon wanted to follow Sam [as leader of hell] » and when I pointed out that Casey in Sin City was willing to take Sam as her leader, they answered « any demon as in each one of them »
As a non native English speaker my default would be to say « every demon » to mean all of them.
I get that « any kid can do that » means « all kids can do that ». But « Not any kid can do that »? I thought it could only mean that « Some special kid can do that but not all of them ».
Can someone explain? Is it one of those word like nonplussed that means something and it’s exact opposite?
