I'm not certain because they never managed it. I had one spirit that acted as a guardian whenever it was around and it chased them off, or once I was smart enough and started to figure out what was going on, I'd run and go for the salt. Most of the attempts happened during my childhood and attacks of that sort are less common now that I'm older. Other tactics are used.
It's worth noting that if the spirit starts catching on that you're suspicious, they'll try to charm or distract you or engage in some derailment tactics so that you stop looking too closely and asking questions. If you start backing away or verbally refuse them, the whole facade starts to unravel and drop away because there's no point in maintaining the mask anymore.
I had a dream in which I used a dagaz rune to chase away an evil spirit, have you heard of the rune being for this,or is my brain just making up stories in my sleep?
Dear Anon,
I haven't posted my Dagaz entry for my rune series yet, but that will hopefully be coming up soon.
Fair warning for UPG: among other things, dagaz is associated with dawn/day and, by extension, light in general. Light is commonly tied to concepts of cleansing, protection, chasing away disease and harm, and could easily be associated with banishing malevolent spirits. I also heavily associate the rune with Heimdall, who's best known for his role as a watchman and protective guardian - in a boundaries sort of way, rather than Thor's aggressive, pro-active sort of protection. I've used the rune to this effect while pairing it with algiz and eihwaz.
I actually HAVE worked with spirits in the past, but spirits are...well.
It may sound strange to some, but to me working with Gods is somewhat easier than working with spirits because I feel like there is more of a personal disconnect there. Like, I CAN have a kind of working relationship with a God but so far it hasn't yet gotten to the point where it's an easy, casual thing. I am not God-bothered. And when I work with a God it's usually very much a student-teacher relationship. I look to them for inspiration, for guidance.
The few times that I can worked with spirits, it's always opened up all sorts of cans of worms that were extremely distressing for me. The first time was pretty emotionally traumatizing. Not because the spirit was malevolent, but just because I was really young and not prepared to help, but I still did anyway even though my heart was torn up about the situation. And then there were a couple of other times where some not-so-nice spirits were tormenting me.
Again, these are just my own personal experiences. I know people that have WAY more trouble with Gods/Deities than they do spirits, and not ALL my experiences with my Gods have been peachy-keen. But those few experiences definitely bothered me quite a bit when I was younger.
On the bright side, now that I'm older, more knowledgeable, and just more mature all around, I know how to handle these sorts of things more gracefully. Perhaps I'm letting my earlier fears prevent me from experiencing new things.
Hello, I've looked for an answer to what I'm about to ask, but have found zip. I was meditating the other night to contact a god. They've been around for a little while, but four days ago is when I named them as my patron and contacted them. So while meditating, I knew I had contact with them from the usual touchy feelings, but suddenly it felt like I was having sex with someone. I'm wondering what this event meant. I'm a bit put-off. If you have any insight, it would be really appreciated.
Dear Anon,
I'm probably not the best person to ask for a balanced and complete list of options regarding this question, as the only time I've had unwanted and uncomfortable interactions with a spirit, it:
Was a spirit/vaettir/dead person, not a God.
Unwanted advances made me do the equivalent of beating the crap out of them until they left me alone.
My first reaction to your question was: "...are they sure that patron is who they say they are? What they say they are? That sounds skeezy."
My second reaction was: "That sounds really unwanted. If it is God X, they need to have it pointed out that that is uncomfortable and not to do that again without permission. If they tried it again anyways, I'd proceed to what I do when I'm bothered by a spirit, which is to fight back and attempt to pwninate the spirit."
Other than confronting them about it, I'd recommend investing some time to learn defensive and offensive techniques and protection and warding techniques.

Ok, I'm not really an expert at working with spirits.
But if you see that one post going around about how to "Play Hide and Seek Alone" that involves channeling a spirit through a doll, please give it a second thought before trying it.
I mean, I'm not going to tell anyone what to do or what's right and wrong ethically when it comes to spirit work, since I've only had some experiences with spirits. But that whole entire "game" is some serious shit that should NOT be taken lightly. And really it just sounds like a 101 of "How to piss off a spirit and get your ass cursed fast."
