I was reading through your tags & found one where a person was asking you if Deity's can enter into your life without you knowing it. I read your response and you said that if you're a creative person watch out for Deity's and spirits cause they can pretend to be your muse. What do you mean by its their favorite "hiding" place. Do they use your works as sort of a cover up so you don't notice them( or notice them)? Sorry if these are stupid questions!
Dear Anon,
It can work as a cover for awhile so you don't notice them (and they can then steer what you're working on subtly, or communicate with you in ways you're very receptive to, such as having an overarching theme or very intense dialogue in a piece of writing that's essentially supposed to be a message to you, the author) or it can be a cover for awhile to get you to open up and talk to them, rather than immediately realizing you're talking to a Deity and shut down out of fear.
I've gotten both. I have a bad habit of getting very tight-lipped and formal if I see and realize an entity is a Deity, which apparently frustrates them when they want me to admit what I'm actually thinking or have some frank dialogue with them. Or, y'know, get relaxed to the point where I might agree to a deal without thinking all the angles through, because spirits are tricky like that.
They can also influence you to create something to send a message to another particular person that is going to see that piece of work. I've had that happen too.

I'm not certain because they never managed it. I had one spirit that acted as a guardian whenever it was around and it chased them off, or once I was smart enough and started to figure out what was going on, I'd run and go for the salt. Most of the attempts happened during my childhood and attacks of that sort are less common now that I'm older. Other tactics are used.
It's worth noting that if the spirit starts catching on that you're suspicious, they'll try to charm or distract you or engage in some derailment tactics so that you stop looking too closely and asking questions. If you start backing away or verbally refuse them, the whole facade starts to unravel and drop away because there's no point in maintaining the mask anymore.
I dunno why I feel the urge to share my story, but I do. Long story short, I had a spirit hounding at me under the guise of Loki. But I wasn't comfortable with it, not to mention he was weirdly aggressive and unfriendly and really pressuring me into a relationship. Not to mention he'd look different from the corner of my eye. This was literally at exactly the same time a much more laid-back figure also calling himself Loki came forward to me. Immediately after I found that spell, the first guy just LEFT. Embittered. Like he'd return soon. And then once the tab was closed tried to forcibly bind me into some shit! I ran like hell. And now added the first spell into the talisman/mojo bag thing I got rockin' on right now. Ayech! Impostor spirits are bad news! Hiddleston Loki's still hanging out with me. Like, walking right next to me and helping me see energy spots. Could he be the real deal?
Dear nikolastrange,
You mentioned something that is a good thing to point out: often masquerading (impostor) spirits weave appearances that have the details slightly off or the illusion doesn't hold up at different angles. It's a red flag to look for, at any rate.
As for whether the other spirit is the real deal or not, that's really not my call to make. There are a lot of spirits walking around wearing that face right now because it gets them a welcome. I'd pay more attention to whether or not the spirit seems benevolent and worry about accurate identification after you start feeling safe and secure. Watch to see whether it's actually benevolent or merely being kind and doing a few nice things at the beginning to hook you in. Some spirits do that, just like some humans do that.
Question: Was the being I encountered during Journeywork Loki?
blank-pagan asked grumpylokeanelder:
I trance-traveled to yggdrasil for the first time just to explore the forest and the world tree, but then I heard (or rather felt) the name "Loki". I turned around and there was this being who wanted me to take their hand and sit with them. It felt like being in contact with Loki, but I'm not sure. How can I find out what this was? Is it probable that this was nothing more than a result of my wish or could it be that Loki knew about this and was there? I did not expect him to be there at all.
Dear blank-pagan,
It will likely take a few times of journeying, carefully asked questions, and some divination work to determine if it was actually Loki. Lots of spirits like to try to masquerade as Him, particularly lately given his current popularity streak. (Masquerading spirits aren't necessarily malevolent, either. Some try to appear as Loki because they think that face and form and misidentification will get them a warm welcome and a needed foot in the door.) Be cautious, pay attention to your gut instinct, and see to what degree your observations and the divination answers do or do not match up.
Always be aware of the fact that spirits can and do lie, just like humans.
Question: How does one tell the difference between the imposters and the real deal?
Anonymous asked grumpylokeanelder:
So you mentioned that there's a lot of things floating around and impersonating Loki at the moment...how does one tell the difference between the imposters and the real deal?
Dear Anon,
I believe I've gone over this a bit in the discernment tag. You'll find a couple of useful posts in there.
I'm simply paranoid by default, do a lot of divination checking, and watch for warning signs. A couple of examples:
Things seem too good to be true.
Things happen extremely quickly and don't give you much time to think, so you just fall into line and agree.
Weird spooky gut feelings, like something is wrong.
If you know the supposed ID of the Deity, they seem "out of character".
Other people working with that spirit seem to have constant drama meltdowns, one after another, or all have bizarre strokes of extremely bad luck, or all suddenly started getting ill after beginning to work with that spirit, or other weird things.
The spirit/deity sets off your protective wards.
They cannot answer your "Security Questions" if you have met the spirit/Deity before and you know that for certain.
They cannot answer normal questions of yours about things you do not know.
They phrase things in weird ways that resemble techniques of cold readers or manipulators. Or they use gaslighting techniques on you.
They suddenly attempt to be very touchy-feely when they were not before. Touch can be a way to try to manipulate you, much like using personal effects in a spell.

Followup Question: Loki, Failed Test, Problems With Fakes.
Anonymous asked grumpylokeanelder:
Godspouse anon. My friend has been working with Loki, for several lifetimes. The other day, she said she had failed a test, Loki said she was unworthy of his love and left, and now I don't know what. She had a problem with a fake before. is it possible this was fake too?
Dear Anon,
Without a lot of details, it'd be difficult to say exactly, but my gut instinct says yes.
I have no idea if your friend was told this by a spirit, or remembered it, or was told this by a mortal. The situation would probably vary depending on these things.
I will state for the record that there are a lot of spirits and egregori floating about right now that are basically masquerading as Loki. Sometimes devotees will also misidentify a Deity and the Deity will not correct them, for one reason or another.
Generally speaking, when I've seen someone stop working with Loki, it tends to be for one of three reasons:
The devotee got pissed off for one reason or another and abandoned the relationship and cut off contact.
Loki or another Deity decided the relationship was not a good fit and stopped contact/the working relationship.
Loki was a temporary teacher or fulfilling an initiatory position. Once the goals of that period have been achieved, the devotee is cut loose or passed along to where they need to go. Sometimes this is another deity, sometimes it is an entirely different path. The period may be short or very long.
This doesn't count natural "quiet periods" or breaks. Deities don't always operate under a human sense of time. I've seen people assume abandonment before when it was simply a quiet period that lasted for a longer time.
