Speed reading
Have you ever heard of speed reading? It is a reading method where you quickly recognise and comprehend bits of information. Seems like a valuable thing in a society where we are constantly overwhelmed by large amounts of information. Or even if you just want to get through as many of your new books as possible in one readathon.
Today I would like to provide you a brief summary of all the things I have found about speed reading.
-Speed reading is a combination of pace and comprehension. What speed readers do, essentially, is skim over the pages rather than read the text word-for-word. Studies have found that the faster you read the text, the less information you actually retain. Thus it is not advisable to use speed reading for your studies, however appealing it may seem.
-To actually read faster, speed reading techniques avoid using sub-vocalization when reading. You may catch yourself repeating the words you are reading right now in your head, this is known as sub-vocalization. By not doing this, many people find their reading pace going up.
-There are other ways in which you can improve your speed reading. One of the most popular techniques is one where you lay a flat object like a card or bookmark under the sentence you are reading, slowly sliding it down as you read. Some report that covering the pages they have already read helps them read faster, the opposite of the former.
-Another speed reading technique that is widely used, is “scanning” the page before actually reading it. Scanning is done by focusing your eyes on the middle of the page, moving down, and trying to find the most important parts of the texts. Doing this can, over time, improve your ability to identify key words and phrases.
If you would like to learn how to speed read, you can send me a private message and I can provide you with convenient speed reading courses or books.
Note to self:
Stop reading books so quickly. You only get to experience the magic of reading a book for the first time once. Don't ruin it with your desire for answers

Noah Wyle reading a recap of The Pitt Season 1.
The cast of The Pitt reading a recap of Season 1. 📖
'The Pitt’ Cast Recaps Season 1
Before season 2 of ‘The Pitt’ begins, get caught up on season 1. Executive Producer and star Noah Wyle and stars Isa Briones, Fiona Dourif, Patrick Ball, Taylor Dearden, Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy, Shabana Azeez, Supriya Ganesh, Gerran Howell, and Sephideh Moafi join EW to catch you up on all the twists and reveals, heartbreaks and triumphs from Season 1 in the ER.
The cast reveals which scenes were the most emotional to shoot, so much so that the cast and crew had to take a break from set, as well as the real-world impacts the show has had so far (like a rise in registration for organ donation). From the ‘wall of Gerran’ (a collage of Gerran Howell covered in ‘different fluids’ as Whitaker) to the patient actors they wish they could work with again, this behind-the-scenes recap is so much more than just a refresher of season 1.
