Always, always, ALWAYS MOISTURIZE!!! Even if you feel like your skin is okay, odds are that you’ll likely forget to moisturize later so make it a part of your morning and nightly routine. I am lucky enough to have very clear skin, but I’ve noticed that moisturizing also helps with the acne that I do get on occasion!

Wear lip balm to bed. Use your finger or a soft brush (if you use a brush, use one designated for this because the area around your eyes is super sensitive) to apply a light layer on your eyelids, and dab on a bit below your eyes to help with bags. 

Keep earbuds, a pen, and something to write on with you at all times. If you feel like you’re going to panic, put your earbuds in and doodle/write. Breathe.

Always keep poetry books around. They’re easier to read and don’t require the commitment of a novel. If you’re like me and tend to read books in one sitting, this is a life saver for the school year.

Change something up every day. It doesn’t have to be big. For example, I always try to listen to a new song every day and wear different earrings after every shower. It keeps life from falling into a blurry, mundane routine.

Make a list of good things before bed. It can in your head or written down. Keep a positivity journal if you can. 

Fleetwood Mac is not only amazing to dance to, but cry to. Preferably in the rain or in the shower. Fewer things are more cleansing.

If you’re a picky eater like me, eat vegetables and fruits at least every other day. And a variety, too. Start slow and it’ll be easier to incorporate them regularly.

Self-care apps help you become more independent and less reliant on others for your wellbeing, which is crucial. I use Plant Nanny, Clue, Calm Harm (note: this app is meant for people who have a tendency to harm themselves but it is also very good for anxiety in general), and Headspace. A new positivity/health app called “Aloe” is being released soon and I’m excited for that as well!

Face masks are rituals. When you put one on, you immediately have a free pass to some wine (or water with fruit if you’re trying to be healthy) and falling down a YouTube hole.

Indulge every now and then. Buy that $10 mascara. Read that controversial book. Watch that cheesy movie. It’s good for you.

Do something to help others at least once a month (and I say that because I realize many of us are either financially dependent and/or broke college students). Donate to a cause you’re passionate about, volunteer with a nonprofit organization, or help out a campaign via social media. Small or large, every action matters. And there is a way for everyone to help. If you’ve ever worried that you’re not “doing enough”, this can help banish that illusion.
