Just talking from a UK Protestant perspective mostly stand up when told to stand, sit down when told to sit, sometimes repeat things on the little script they give you (this may or may not be in a vaguely sing-songy way, this will be determined almost completely at random on a case-by-case basis). The priest/vicar will usually give a lil speech generally vaguely related to current events, then towards the end they start handing out the bread and wine. If you are not confirmed you should not eat the bread and wine but you can usually either just stay in your seat or go up for a blessing - generally "gimme" hands up for that sweet sweet christflesh allegory or hands down/by sides for "just put in a good word for me with the big man."
Basically all you need to do is follow the Sir Ian McKellen acting method "how did I know where to stand? People told me. How did I know what to say? The words were written down in the script." and you'll be fine 👍
Can't help you if it's more lively and evangelical, those kinds of services make me feel intense anxiety.

I just wanted to say in a message rather than a reply, just because it seems more formal, that your poem on watching a parent age was so incredibly beautiful and moving. As a parent to a young child and son to aging parents it hit me from both sides and resonated deeply in my heart.
I'm still wiping the tears away and I just wanted to thank you for it because it's a truly wonderful poem.

Um, he was though? I definitely heard him and he was listed in the credits as one of the voices.
Huh, I believe you, I wrote this post immediately after I got back and hadn’t heard him and I thought that when I saw a list of who all had spoken in that scene he’d not been on it but I easily could have misremembered it since I was sort-of just skimming past it.
