I think my issue is that I think that big dogs are such pointless animals.

also funny bc there's also general pre-modern omegaverse where the heat suppressants are sort of hand wavey herb tinctures i suppose that are meant to be like mirroring pre-modern natural birth controls and general herbal medicine but it does interest me to think about. the science of it in general is interesting like i guess it's a hormone suppressant in general that somehow has no side effects ??? and then there's the physical suppressants that just hide the scent like what is the chemical composition of these things. i guess just alcohol or something would be simplest but what can mask pheromones yknow. like what would get past what is essentially if humans were highly attuned sniffer dogs especially where the pheromone itself chemically alters others (even if i think when it's super drastic it's really stupid like have some self control but i will concede it's probably like olfactory cleavage). and how do you eat a herb enough and it makes your hole stop leaking. This is the things i think about. it would be easy enough to come up with some sort of fake herb that magically does it but i think it's more interesting to come up with something that actually exists just in the right combination... like an anti inflammatory or something that changes your blood pressure bc that's what produces vaginal wetness, then you'd need something for energy and general wellness, dehydration, a mood stabiliser of some sort, a relaxant... all the general remedies for animals in heat is treating the symptoms themselves like you treat a period but the only way to "get rid" of a period barring unrelated medical interference is to either get the organ removed / some sort of hormone therapy (including birth control here) and the only way to stop heats in animals is spaying. anyway. so i suppose birth control would work in that regard.
