“Momma! I’m having a stressful morning!” He screamed at me. . Well no $hit, child. You’ve demanded everyone stop talking. Cried because your eggs weren’t salty enough. Cried because I let you salt them and then they were too salty. Screamed because I said I would help you. Yelled because you didn’t understand my instructions. . But the simple statement “I’m feeling stressed” is all I need to hear. We all have. Crappy mornings. Even kids. So I stopped what I was doing and I gave you a hug. I told you: . “When you are having a hard time, your family will always try and help you. But we need to know. I’m glad you told me you were feeling stressed. Because now we can do some things differently to make them feel less stressful.” . So I sent your twin to the bus stop with Papa. And you and I slowed down. We rode my bike to catch up and make the bus. And before it came I whispered a truth to you. . “Even when you feel stressed or overwhelmed we can always help and give things another try or do things differently. You don’t ever have to feel stressed alone.” . If I can give him anything, it would be the knowledge that he is resilient. That he can have a miserable morning and survive it. That things going wrong/hard/differently does not have to ruin the entire day. And that I am proud of him for listening and trying to reset. . How’s your morning going?
