What Not To Do On FACEBOOK- Mariam Tengbeh
Privacy is a massive concern for Facebook users especially when it comes to employment. The task of separating your private and professional life can be a tough and stressful one as inappropriate photos from a weekend out and/or comments could potentially cost you your chances of employment. That is why this guide was created along side expert advice from John Toccari, career counsellor at www.careersdoctor.net to clean up your online presence so you don't ruin your chances of employment later on, embarrass your family or yourself. John Taccori's check list on what employer's shouldn't see on Facebook. 1. Be careful of what you post on social media because it's going to be there forever. 2. Don't post what you wouldn't want your future employer to see. 3. Be conservative with the photo's you post and what you write about, particularly if you have certain strong beliefs about politics, religion, racial views. 4. Delete or untag yourself from any posts, photos or comments that are distasteful or show in an unfavourable light. 5. Review your wall and what groups you are a member of on facebook. 6. If you’re a party animal or get into mischief over the weekend keep those photos or videos private - your friends might be interested but the world doesn't need to know. Facebook's privacy settings are your best friend! 1. Make sure only friends can see your post 2. Change settings on who can send you friend request 3. If necessary block or unfriend any unwanted users you do not want to be affiliated with. Twitter and Nielsen Ratings: An Issue of Magnitude
Nielsen, the television ratings authority, released a study on August 6 claiming a statistically…

It was inevitable - Introducing the Social TV Ecosystem Chart 2.0 - Courtesy of Ad Age and Trendrr: "Structurally a little different from previous 1.x charts, in that we cut back and consolidated the number of "slices" of the pie to simplify things a bit. And, once again, we've added a bunch of companies while removing others. Some of the adjustments were for happy reasons (for instance, Bluefin Labs is gone because it got purchased by and absorbed into Twitter in February in a deal said to be in the $100 million range). Others, less happy (Umami, maker of a social-TV iPad app, "concluded its beta trial period" in the spring, and last we heard, had put its intellectual property up for sale).
As always, this chart isn't the last word on the rapidly morphing social-TV sector, so we'll keep updating it. Stay tuned..."
Big Things in 2012 for 'Next Big Thing' Alums
2012 was a big year for a number of entrepreneurs who presented at the Paley Center's Next Big Thing startup series.
There were several acquisitions...
SocialGuide, the aptly named social-TV programming guide, won the audience vote when founder Sean Casey presented in September 2011. In November, Nielsen and NM Incite (a JV between Nielsen and McKinsey & Co.) snatched them up.
Social music-recommendation service Rexly (presented in November 2011) was acquired by music industry behemoth Live Nation.
Fondu, which began life as a social recommendation service for nightlife called SpotOn when cofounder Gauri Manglik presented in April 2011, was acquired by Airbnb in October.
And NewsCred--which presented at the Paley Center's International Council summit in Madrid back in April before returning to join the line-up for our October showcase for digital news innovators--was on the buying end, acquiring news aggregator DayLife.
...some pivots and evolutions...
Just about two years since they launched Broadcastr as a location-based audio storytelling platform, Scott Lindenbaum and Andy Hunter (who presented in February 2011) have turned their lessons-learned into SPUN, a new location-based news app for iPhone.
Back in November 2009, when Avner Ronen presented at the first Next Big Thing session at the International Council summit, Boxee was positioning itself as "Android for the TV." Three years later, Boxee TV boasts a cloud-based DVR and a set-top box you can get at Walmart. Here's Avner's demo from the 2012 IC Summit.
...and some general kudos.
Two NBT alums were featured in Forbes's 30 Under 30 list: Kathryn Minshew, founder and CEO of The Daily Muse (presented September 2011); and Francisco Diaz-Mitoma, CEO of VIRURL (presented September 2012).
And Yoni Bloch, cofounder and CEO of interactive-video platform Interlude.fm, was honored in his native Israel with the Prime Minister's Award for Initiative and Innovation. Clearly, Prime Minister Netanyahu saw Yoni's presentation at IC2011 LA, when he serenaded Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg with a personalized-in-real-time love song video.
Congratulations to all on a successful 2012, and here's to bigger and better things next year!

This Social TV phenomenon is created from linear TV experience. And that’s the great opportunity that linear has moving forward. People are sharing because they know that when they watch live, they’re not watching alone. So we’ve been squarely focused on linear TV from day one.
Sean Casey, Founder of SocialGuide, in Forbes story about their recent acquisition by Nielsen and what it means for TV to have tweets tracked by the major ratings company. Great to see a former client do well!

"Yeah Bitch, Magnets!" - From Degenerate to Mastermind, Breaking Bad's, Jesse Pinkman
Last night’s Breaking Bad premiere was electromagnetic on the #socialTV charts. SocialGuide Intelligence (SGI) recorded 130,590 socialTV comments and the hashtag #breakingbad was generated 50,164 times. This is only just the beginning for what we can expect to be one of the most popular socialTV series of all time.
What was "hands up in the air" the best moment of the show?
Vince Gilligan’s, executive producer/show-runner/creator, continues his ingenious streak of clever writing craftsmanship by utilizing the unique and fun-loving character of Jesse (Aaron Paul) as the episodes forefront man. While Walt and Mike bicker like two hungry French women, Jesse lounges on a couch and smoothly interrupts them with the percussive idea of “magnets.” He subsequently mimics the “suction” sound, piercing his lips and gesturing with his hand, a comedic stage direction that naturally compliments Jesse’s wickedly brilliant character. When Walt uncovers the destructive power of magnets in the junkyard later, Jesse jumps enthusiastically in the air, throwing down an iconic fist pump and yelling “Yeah Bitch, Magnet’s!”
Jesse has always been one of the most entertaining characters on #BreakingBad and he is looking more fresh and clean-cut than ever before. We can assume that this season we are going to see a much different side of the former meth addict degenerate. Normally, it is #Heisenberg, otherwise known as Walt or Mr.White, who is doing all the groundwork and coming up with the science behind the mischievous drug endeavors that make #BreakingBad so...BADass. But, in this episode, Jesse, was the brains. He was the mastermind and the power that propelled the episode's storyline forward and kept things interesting.
#jessepinkman generated 158 social comments according to Social Guide Intelligence (SGI) and we can only expect that number to rise. Can’t wait to see what he has in store for us this season.
