"You mean good food," he corrects with a wink and flourish of his wrist as he sets the dish in front of her.

Christopher retreats to the other counter long enough for him to pluck his own dish, he could've easily balanced both but had chosen to go for cheesy dramatics, and settles into the seat next to her. Against his will, a tiny groan squeezes past his lips. He is, as some of the younger crew likes to remind him, getting older and the long week topped off by a few hours on his feet in the kitchen, haven't done him any favors.

first take on a more detailed map of grenvil, which is easily my most well realized territory right now. still pretty simple, but i wanted to nail down all of the most important geograpy

grenvil island’s southern coast is dominated by old growth temperate rainforest, more or less isolated from the rest of the island by aphelion’s largest mountain range. the mountains taper off toward the east, which is largely flat land. meadows and small pockets for new growth forest.

central grenvil is dominated by the granite uplift and surrounding rhyolite plains. new growth deciduous forests are plentiful here. the north is all basin and range landscape, wildly varying in topography but nowhere even beginning to approach the elevation of the southern mountains. the north is the only part of the territory not dominated by great forests, although small pockets of woodland are still very common.

the mainland strip to the far south is a nearly identical biome to the island’s southern coasts; old growth temperate rainforest where the bedrock is far more basaltic than the rhyolitic dominant central and northern areas. the contentious border between mainland grenvile and valbara is yet another mountain range, to which valbara lies in the rain shadow. everything south of the border is a very cold, extremely arid desert. this, by the way, is the native irothi justification for why their home land is inclusive of the mainland strip. the biome is just like ours, not yours; it’s our land. the nenn, who have struggled to try and inhabit the frigid wasteland that is northeast valbara for centuries, aren’t on board with the idea. at all.

i’ve included two of the most densely populated centers, granite hill and pyrox, because those are the only two cities that are firmly cemented in my canon. granite hill so named for the massive uplift of basement rock on which they’ve built the city, and pyrox because pyroxene. i love geology and so do the iroth.

no scale included on this map because i still have no idea exactly how big i want this continent and everything in it.

I got Kaiya’s name straight off of @Teslatricity’s fic “Our Pursuit of a Path” (read it!) because it’s just so pretty and it seemed to fit.
